Continuing With “Why Vote for Conservatives?”
BY: HOOD RICHARDSON
The article titled “Why Vote for Conservatives” got a lot of chatter and some surprising comments. The issue of who is a “conservative Republican” and who is not seems to be getting red hot. Conservatism issues in the Democrat (yes there were conservative Democrats) and Republican Parties may be the reason the number of unaffiliated voters has grown during the past 20 years.
Conservatism left the Democrat Party as it morphed into socialist/communist fascism. Socialists and communists do not tolerate anyone who disagrees with them about anything. There is nothing new about this. Over the entire world, once socialist/communists get the majority vote, they purge all who do not swear allegiance to them.
Some pundits predict the same thing is happening to the Republican Party. There is no big tent at the grass roots level. The liberals and RINO’s are constantly attacking conservatives. The glue that is presently holding the Republican Party together is the loyalty of conservative Republicans coupled with enough of the unaffiliated voters to form a voting majority to support Donld Trump.
The Republican Party has an elected political leader in Donald J. Trump. It is for this reason that the Republican Party could split into two parties after Trump leaves office. The Democrat Party does not have a defined or recognized leader. It is for this reason they will continue to wilt unless a dynamic leader rises. Then the question is: “Will they reform as a big tent party or continue to build a communist party”.
My use of the word fascist is not casual. Many people use the word fascist interchangeably with Nazi. Nazi refers to a political party. The Nazi Party operated as a total dictatorship that took over Germany mainly during the 1930’s. The Nazi Party believed in loyalty to race and territorial expansion. Fascism requires extreme loyalty, aggressive suppression of opposition, rule by hierarchy and scapegoating. Fascists’ behavior can be applied to any club, company, government, religious organization, etc, etc.
In my opinion, modern conservatives are tolerant of the opinions of others, understand that elective service to government or any group involves the honest, even handed, fair representation of every member of that group. Dictatorships are definitely out. The persecution and suppression of those who nonviolently disagree is definitely not a part of any form of a democratic society. Witness the free-speech provision in the United States Bill of Rights.
There are many proofs of oppression in Beaufort County. The consolidation of schools came because of the joining of the RINO’s with the Democrats on the Board of County Commissioners to form a majority voting block that has deprived the county of neighborhood schools, and medical coverage (i.e. the closing of the Belhaven Hospital). This same RINO/Democrat coalition is standing in the way of economic development by building the US Highway 17 Bypass in the worst possible place and failing to zone one of the best 300-acre industrial sites in the United States to Heavy Industrial. Our Industrial Park South has sat there for almost 20 years undeveloped. Our taxes were raised last year and are now at least 20 percent higher than they should be.
The politically corrupt practice of the two Republicans (Frankie Waters and Randy Walker) joining with the two Democrats has been supported by the Beaufort County Republican Party through its “Victory Committee”. We are told how it is good practice for the Republican Party to have a “Victory Committee” to manage elections for us. The members of the “Victory Committee” are Carolyn Garris, Ashley Woolard, Steve Rader, Paul Varcoe, Keith Kidwell and Greg Dority who fancies himself to be a “consultant”. This is good management if you present yourself as a “conservative Republican” while you beat down conservatives.
The Victory Committee has never been approved (voted on) by the present Beaufort County Executive Committee. It has never been authorized to spend money to buy advertising. Unauthorized media advertisements and press releases are now, and have been, paid for by money collected from Republican Party members. These advertisements attack myself, Stan Deatherage, Sheri Clark and Tex Melton. Unauthorized demands of school board members to resign were made by members of the Victory Committee. Compare the behavior of the “Victory Committee’ to the definition of fascist and see what you get.
To get the heat off her, Queen Carolyn Garris, has announced she is not running for Beaufort County Chairman in March of 2027. I have seen this stunt pulled before. The Queen not running is scant compensation for the damage she and her Victory Committee have done to the Republican movement.
Queen Garris, the Victory Committee, and their ilk are able to brutalize Republicans in Beaufort County because we vote consistently more than 2/3 MAGA Republican.
Put a stop to this political oppression by voting for Stan Deatherage for County Commissioner. Of the four people running, three are going to be seated regardless of how you vote. Let the Victory Committee picks, Ashley Woolard and John Edwards, fight over the crumbs. A vote for Stan Deatherage shoves it in the face of the Victory Committee. Charles Hickman is the only Conservative Republican running for the School Board. He is unopposed. Those Republicans running in School Districts 6 and 8 are Victory Committee picks and otherwise unproven Republicans.
I have Conservative Club sample ballots. You may call and request for them to be emailed to you…252-975-3472.

Folks may or may not agree with Hood depending on what is being discussed. However, Hood has made a point of shining a light on the corruption that exists within the leadership of the Beaufort County Republican Executive Committee and specifically, the Victory Committee. For all of the naysayers, one only needs to look at the Beaufort County Republican Party Facebook page. This page is run by the Executive Committee and Carolyn Garris as the point of contact. During an election, the Executive Committee should be promoting all Republican candidates for County Commissioner. Sides should not be taken or favor shown to one candidate over another. This is not the case. Ashley Woolard, a Victory Committee member, has two or more ads promoting him on the page. No ads promoting Stan Deatherage or John Edwards appear on the page. Stan requested to have one of his ads included on the page a week ago. However, his ad was not posted, nor were Ashley Woolard's taken down if they had been posted mistakenly. Both Edwards and Deatherage should rightfully be outraged regarding this issue. It appears that Hood is correct, that the Victory Committee is playing favorites, and that the corruption within the party is on full display for those who observe.
