    Mrs. Dorothy Fynetta Morris Smith, age 83, a resident of Market Street Ext, Washington, died Friday, July 18, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

    Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, July 21, 2014 at the First Free Will Baptist Church in Washington, conducted by Rev. Todd Parrish. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery, Washington.

    Mrs. Smith's grandsons will serve as pallbearers: Robert A. Andrews, Jr., David L. Carver, Jr., James C. Smith III, William V. Ward III, Michael R. Jones, Jr. and John B. Ipock.

    Mrs. Smith was born in Beaufort County on May 4, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Alton Roland Morris and Cottie Mae Harris Morris. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. She was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church and Sunday school. In her spare time, Mrs. Smith loved to crochet and read.

    On December 24, 1947, she married James Clarence (J. C.) Smith, Sr., who preceded her in death, February 2, 2002.

    Mrs. Smith is survived by a son, James C. Smith, Jr. of Washington; three daughters, Fynetta Smith Ward and husband, William V. Ward, Jr. of Rocky Mount, Gloria Smith Carver of Washington, Teresa Lynn Smith of Washington; eight grandchildren, Juanita Smith Jones, Vanessa Ward Ipock, David L. Carver, Jr., William V. Ward III, Amanda Smith Leggett, Christopher S. Carver, Robert A. Andrews, Jr., James C. Smith III; 11 great grandchildren; one great grandchild; and three sisters, Joanne Winstead Lewis of Washington, Joyce Lawrence of Elkin, N.C., Patricia Morris Woolard of Washington.

    In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Lou Sisson and Sharon Stone and two brothers, Larry Morris and Pete Morris.

    The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Paul Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington and other times at her home, 4056 Market Street Ext., Washington.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Free Will Baptist Church, 901 N. Bonner Street, Washington, N.C. 27889.
