With deep sadness, the family of Rupert "Lee" Drake, Jr., age 78, of Washington, North Carolina, announces his passing on November 1, 2026. Lee passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home.

Born in Ahoskie, North Carolina, Lee moved to Washington with his family in 1958, where he would grow to become a familiar and beloved face in the community.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Rupert Lee Drake, Sr. and Mildred Aileen Drake; his sisters, Cassandra Drake and Carolyn Somers; and his brother, Stanley "Ray" Drake. He is survived by his youngest brother, Tommy Drake; nephews, Brae Somers, Hayden Drake, and Nathan Drake and his wife, Caroline; niece, Alison Simon and her husband, Craig; great-nephews, Trent, Ben, and Nolan; and great-nieces, Natalie, Julianne, and Scarlet.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Lee spent much of his childhood and high school years playing his favorite sport, baseball. He later proudly served his country as a military police officer in the United States Army, stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, during the late 1960s. He received an honorable discharge in 1970.

Following his military service, Lee discovered his natural talent for sales while working at Maxwell Furniture. He later joined Lee Chevrolet, where his outgoing personality and memorable salesmanship became well known throughout the community. It was there that he coined the unforgettable phrase, "All roads lead to Lee!"-a saying that perfectly captured both his profession and his larger-than-life personality. He coupled his persona with time spent on the stage as an active participant in local theater, with notable performances like Little Shop of Horrors, Our Town, The Zombie, and many more.

With an infectious smile and a laugh that could brighten any room, Lee had a remarkable ability to bring joy to those around him. He never seemed to meet a stranger and had a way of making people feel welcome, whether they had known him for years or had only just met him. Lee embraced life with humor, enthusiasm, and a genuine appreciation for the people who shared it with him.

Above all else, Lee loved his family. He was a devoted son, brother, and uncle whose love was reflected not simply in words, but in his willingness to be there whenever he was needed. He valued time spent with those closest to him and took great pride in the family he held so dearly.

Lee will be remembered for his quick wit, warm smile, generous spirit, and the countless memories he leaves behind. Though his presence will be deeply missed, the laughter he shared, the relationships he built, and the love he gave will remain with his family and friends for years to come.

Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington is honored to serve the Drake family.
