    Dr. Donald Carl Johnson, age 84, a resident of 110 Northwood Rd, Washington, died Friday December 5, 2014, at River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

    The family will receive friends at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington on Tuesday December 9, 2014 from 5:00PM until 7:00PM.

    Dr. Johnson was born in Chicago on September 30, 1930 to the late Dr. Carl August Johnson and Mary Olive Reiner Johnson.. On December 21, 1974 he married the late Linda Davis Johnson. He received his BA degree at Earlham College in Richmond, IN. and went to graduate school at the University of Missouri. He graduated from the Bowman-Gray School of Medicine at Wake Forest University and then interned at McLaren General Hospital in Flint, Michigan. He received Ophthalmology Specialty training at the University of North Carolina at McPhearson Hospital in Durham. He served as a captain in the United States Air Force in the medical division at Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois He was an Ophthalmologist serving the community of Washington for many years until his retirement in 1998.

    Dr. Johnson loved aviation. He received his pilot license in 1957 and has flown many types of planes including aerobatic aircraft and gliders. He built several of the airplanes he flew. He also enjoyed building and flying R/C model aircraft, Hunting and Fishing.

    Survivors include a son Dr. Michael D. Johnson and his wife Debbie of Goldsboro, two daughters, Marilyn J. Daw and Husband Ronnie of Washington, Sandra J Asby and her husband Harley also of Washington, eight grandchildren, Jennifer Johnson Pike and husband Dr. Maxwell Pike of Kansas City, MO, Jamie Johnson Harford and her husband Josh of Raleigh, Jackie Johnson of Goldsboro. Colin Daw, Reiner Daw both of Washington, Ashley Belote of Washignton, Coleman Belote of Washington, and Karl Belote of Morehead City, and a Brother Robert Reiner Johnson of Louisville, KY.

    Including his parents and wife, Dr. Johnson is predeceased by two sisters, Lois J. Blake and Beatrice J. Walters.

    In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Office of Alumni Affairs, Wake Forest School of Medicine, Class of 1958, Endowment Fund P.O. Box 571021 Winston Salem, NC 27199 or the Alzheimer's Association Eastern NC Chapter, 1305 Navaho Drive suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27609.
