Winter Weather Advisory for Beaufort County
News Release:
Good Morning Everybody:
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory effective midnight tonight running through Wednesday 11:00 am for possible light ice accumulations, mainly on bridges and overpasses. The Western half of Beaufort County appears like it will be most heavily impacted, but after just talking to the NWS forecasters in Morehead City it appears the greatest impact will be much further West of Beaufort County. However, we should not go unprepared as even a little ice on the roadway can lead to many accidents, falls and even significant injuries to our citizens and employees.
I have enclose a graphic of the likely hood of accumulating ice in the various areas of the NC Coastal Plains. We should prepare for an icing event and take all the necessary precautions associated with black ice on the road ways. The latter in the morning Wednesday that travel takes place the less likely icing will become a factor for travel. We just talked with NCDOT and they are prepared to treat the roads prior to the sleet if it isn't raining to heavily, but even if raining once the transition to sleet begins they will begin treating the bridges and other known trouble areas.
Please remember to remind our fellow employees and first responders to have emergency supplies in their vehicles to keep them warm and safe. First Responders please keep in mind the road conditions and when directing traffic be visible and remember stopping or steering of the oncoming traffic could be affected so protect yourself and accident victims and other emergency responders. In icing conditions one accident can easily become three or four separate accidents as chain reactions could occur.
