Tillis Co-Sponsors Forty Hours Is Full Time Act | Eastern NC Now

    WASHINGTON, D.C.     Today, Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) announced he is co-sponsoring the Forty Hours Is Full Time Act, S.30, to require the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to define a “full-time employee” as someone who works 40 hours per week, not 30 hours per week as currently defined by the IRS under President Obama’s Affordable Care Act. This 30 hour definition has forced many employers to cut work schedules for many workers in North Carolina in order to keep up with the costs of the President’s health care law. As a result, many North Carolinians are now being forced to work more than one job at the same time to make ends meet.

    “The employer mandate has placed an unnecessary burden on North Carolina businesses, local school districts, public universities, and many other employers, to cut the hours and wages of hardworking Americans in order to cope with the economic costs of the President’s Affordable Care Act,” said Senator Tillis. “This legislation is a bipartisan effort to once again make it a priority to protect the jobs of American workers by simply defining ‘full-time work’ as 40 hours, not 30 hours, per week.”
