Born: September 24, 1921, Died: January 26, 2015

    Mrs. Helen Olivia Edwards Whitley, age 93, a former resident of Lizzard Slip Road, Washington, died Monday, January 26, 2015 at River Trace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Washington.

    Funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 28, 2015 in the sanctuary of First Church of Christ, Washington, conducted by S. Ray West. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.

    The following will serve as pallbearers: Adam Dixon, Ryan Beacham, Brian Smith, Gary McSweeney, Jr., Andrew Keech, and Charles Windley.

    Mrs. Whitley was born in Beaufort County on September 24, 1921. She was the daughter of the late William John Edwards and Eugenia Gertrude Mallison Edwards. Mrs. Whitley was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Church of Christ and had participated in Ladies' Circles. In her spare time, Mrs. Whitley loved working on different kinds of puzzles, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.

    On September 24, 1947, she married Jessie Hilton Whitley, who survives.

    Surviving with her husband are her children, Raymond Keith Whitley and wife, Ellen, Pat Beacham and husband, Ronnie, Darrell Whitley, Ronnie Whitley and wife, Tina all of Washington; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

    In addition to her parents, Mrs. Whitley was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, A.M. Edwards, Billy Edwards, Carl Edwards, Louise Toler, Calla Mixon, Blanche Edwards and Louis Edwards.

    The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM Tuesday, January 27, 2015 in the Family Life Center of First Church of Christ and other times at the home of her daughter, Patricia Beacham, 114 Lawson Road, Washington.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Church of Christ, 520 East 10th Street, Washington, N.C. 27889 or the charity of one's choice.
