Jones Votes for Keystone XL Pipeline | Eastern NC Now

    WASHINGTON, D.C.     Today, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) voted in favor of legislation that would create thousands of American jobs through the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline. The Keystone XL Pipeline Approval Act – S.1 – would allow construction on the 1,179 mile pipeline to begin. The State Department asserted last year that the project will have no significant impact on the environment. S.1 passed the Senate with bipartisan support of 62 to 36 on January 29, and it passed the House of Representatives today with bipartisan support of 270 to 152. It will now go to the president’s desk.

    “President Obama’s refusal to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline cannot be rationally defended,” said Jones. “Congress has spoken and now the bill goes to his desk. I sincerely hope that he will sign this bill into law. This legislation is about creating the thousands of jobs that the current administration has denied the American people for nearly 7 years. It is about growing the economy at a time when the country’s finances are suffering.”
