How to stop ISIS? Send in the social workers! | Eastern North Carolina Now

Publisher's note: Brant Clifton uses the words of others, in part, to discover the inane in his "bare knuckles" Conservative online publication known as The Daily Haymaker.

If you've had some discomfort with the way DC has been handling the war on terror lately, the recent words of State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf should make you run for the medicine cabinet - or Walgreen's - for more Maalox:

State Department Spokesperson Marie Harf told Chris Matthews tonight that we cannot win this war with ISIS by killing them. She said we have to get to the root cause of why people are attracted to Jihad - you know like poverty, jobs, etc...

"We're killing a lot of them and we're going to keep killing more of them. So are the Egyptians, so are the Jordanians. They're in this fight with us. But we cannot win this war by killing them. We cannot kill our way out of this war. We need in the medium to longer term to go after the root causes that leads people to join these groups, whether it's lack of opportunity for jobs..."

Oh, like 'The War on Poverty' in this country? It might not be such a bad thing to subject those nutjobs to the Obama-era domestic policy. I mean, look at how many more shuttered businesses, and broke and unemployed people there are since BHO took office! But wait, she wasn't done:

MATTHEWS: How do we stop this? I don't see it. I see the Shia militias coming out of Baghdad who are all Shia. The Sunnis hate them. The Sunnis are loyal to ISIS rather than going in with the Shia. You've got the Kurds, the Jordanian air force and now the Egyptian air force. But i don't see any - If i were ISIS, I wouldn't be afraid right now. I can figure there is no existential threat to these people. They can keep finding places where they can hold executions and putting the camera work together, getting their props ready and killing people for show. And nothing we do right now seems to be directed at stopping this.barf

HARF: Well, I think there's a few stages here. Right now what we're doing is trying to take their leaders and their fighters off the battlefield in Iraq and Syria. That's really where they flourish.

MATTHEWS: Are we killing enough of them?

HARF: We're killing a lot of them and we're going to keep killing more of them. So are the Egyptians, so are the Jordanians. They're in this fight with us. But we cannot win this war by killing them. We cannot kill our way out of this war. We need in the medium to longer term to go after the root causes that leads people to join these groups, whether it's lack of opportunity for jobs, whether -

MATTHEWS: We're not going to be able to stop that in our lifetime or fifty lifetimes. There's always going to be poor people. There's always going to be poor muslims, and as long as there are poor Muslims, the trumpet's blowing and they'll join. We can't stop that, can we?

HARF: We can work with countries around the world to help improve their governance. We can help them build their economies so they can have job opportunities for these people...

Build an economy for The Islamic State ???? We're dealing with people who have a Middle Ages outlook on life. You can't orchestrate 21st century welfare-state diplomacy on savages who get their kicks chopping off people's heads or locking people in cages and setting them on fire. The only thing they understand is pure, raw violence.

IF you determine that these people are an honest-to-goodness threat to US national security, you need to follow the command of General Maximus and "Unleash Hell." We don't need to be fighting other people's fights. We certainly don't need to be introducing these Third World savages to the awesome power of the Department of Health and Human Services.

We've already got 4000 troops hanging out in Kuwait apparently waiting to get involved with all of this counseling. If this is a hint of what we've got coming, America doesn't need any part of it. It's disrespectful to the brave soldiers who signed up to serve our country.

We are not God's gift to the world unless we seek a moral stance that honors God. Jews thought they were a "chosen people" and blew it over and over. At times the "got it" and at other "missed by a country mile" . . .

Well, then thank-you for once again presenting the Liberal perspective of moral equivalency of the 'Blame American First Coalition.

In you dreams, Stan ~~~ in your dreams . . .

It is the exact same motive of hate gone wild as infects you and others who write articles here for abject conservatism.

The Murders in Chapel Hill are no moral equivalency for the systematic murder of tens of thousands of Christians.

Rather than being a naive "pacifist" I recognize 2 things:
(1) It is better to live in peace rather than war.
(2) There are certain parts of humanity which recognize only the threat of a gun pressed between their eyes and one willing to pull the trigger, if necessary.

Having said that I am appalled by the white guy in Chapel Hill who executed 3 Muslim students wanting to do good rather than harm. Those kinds of actions on our part are just an inhumane as the hate you constantly spread with your vindication of abject Conservatism.

YES~~~I said HATE because there is no other word to describe it. At heart you mean well, but in reality your tongue is as Paul stated --- a two-edged sword / like the small rudder which steers a giant ship / able to advocate good and evil at different times.

I shall leave it up to wise readers to decide for themselves which way is preferable. Most Muslims here in America are trying to escape to a free country supposedly allowing for them to express their religion in the same freedom as us in the South. We need to get over a life of hate and derision or we perish . . .

Okay.

You be the pacifist that benefits from the courage of warriors and patriots, and the rest of us are now on a war footing preparing for the inevitable.

The truth of our approach to ISIS now by diplomacy over killing is clearly seen if you just read the Bible. The same "eye-for-eye-tooth-for-tooth" was in vogue from the Jews early on. Their view was "If you kill, we kill you" because the 10 Commandments say "thou shalt not kill."

Jesus taught to forgive you enemies and love one another. THAT is the only solution to hate ~~~ stop the vengeance and leave some stuff to God. "Vengeance is mine" was part of God's Word in the OT along with what the Pharisees had made it through too much law and confusion to society.

WE cannot and will not solve all problems on this earth, but minding our own business and setting a great example of human cooperation through democracy is far better than blowing the rag heads away and giving them more reason to hate us.

Irrespective that vacuous Marie Harf substantially has that whole blonde thing going on ...

We still have had over 6 years now of a Hussein Obama State Department that is mind numbing in its pure unmitigated stupidity. Even though assistant to the under secretary, Marie Harf, comes off as an over-privileged, over-educated stupefyingly repressive valley girl, one has to understand that this level of idiocy must come from the top, and I'm not talking about Secretary of State John 'Stone-face' Kerry; I'm calling out America's first Idiot president, Barack Hussein.

In retrospect, Joe Biden, as well, has that blonde thing real bad right now. Actually, who in this 'F. Troop' administration does not have chronic blonde syndrome?
