Jones Calls for VA Action to Cut Wait Times in ENC | Eastern North Carolina Now

    WASHINGTON, D.C.     Today, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) called on Veterans Administration (VA) Secretary Robert McDonald to come to Capitol Hill and explain how the VA will address the excessive wait times at VA clinics in Eastern North Carolina that were reported last week by the Associated Press (AP). The AP report disclosed that the VA clinic in Jacksonville, North Carolina has one of the worst wait times in the United States, while wait times at the Greenville and Wilmington clinics are also significantly above the national average.

    "Our men and women in uniform have made incredible sacrifices for us and they deserve to receive the highest standard of care, which is why the prolonged wait times at VA facilities in Eastern North Carolina must be resolved as quickly as possible. Our veterans earned their benefits and they deserve better," said Congressman Jones. "All options need to be on the table, including working with the private sector. I look forward to meeting with Secretary McDonald to resolve this issue."

    Last Congress, Congressman Jones cosponsored more bills to help veterans than any other member of the 113th Congress (which spanned from January 2013 through December 2014), including legislation aimed at improving accountability at the VA by allowing the secretary of the VA to remove any official displaying poor job performance, and legislation that would increase the VA's accountability to the VA Inspector General.
