I read a book about the estimated 50,000 Black soldiers who wore the CSA uniform and fought in numerous battles.

Forgotten Confederates: An Anthology About Black Southerners, Vol. 14 (Journal of Confederate History Series)Jun 1997 - by Charles K. Barrow and J. H. Segars

Most of us know the Civil War did not end at Appomattox, although all I see is Gen Lee and Gen Grant paintings.

The time line is as follows:

      •  April 9, 1865 Gen. Lee surrendered to General Grant

      •  April 18, 1865 Gen. Johnson surrendered to Gen. Sherman

      •  And the Cherokees were the last to surrender.

      •  June 23, 1865 Cherokee Gen Stand Waite and the Cherokee Mounted Rifles surrendered to Lt-Col Asa Matthews.

      •  Aug 20, 1866 Pres. Andrew Johnson declared the war over.

Maybe these groups are not totally forgotten.

May 10 is Confederate Memorial Day in North Carolina.

Good question. I plan to visit Americana Brazil where 20,000 Confederates emigrated in 1867. I understand Texas has legal rights as a Republic to separate back to an independent country. Love it or leave it might be easier than I thought.
