Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty | Eastern North Carolina Now

Here is the US State Department website:

It has the video of what the history and purpose of controlling nuclear weapons has been since the 1950's. I hope you will watch carefully, search the site, and see it is far wiser to seek PEACE rather than escalate WAR.

I, personally, am grateful that the fears of the Cuban Missile Crisis are behind us. Now, we are seeking to reconnect diplomatic relations with Cuba and Russia. That is wise. At this time our most Conservative Congress is threatening not to approve it! That is unconscionable to me.

As a matter of fact, the Document is already signed after months of negotiations under the guiding hand of John Kerry and the Obama Administration. The sending of it to Congress is but a courtesy. Their vote makes no real difference in whether it is in place or not!

As the world watches our deliberations, it is important to recognize the statement Congress is going to be making in the next weeks. For the last 2 years they have made empty promises to "bring Conservatism to bear on all things legislative." The result is constant defeat/delay of measures to improve VA care of vets, a budget crisis each year, some grandiose speeches which are hot air --- all while the President continues to make progress we badly need. The Branches of Government are in a deep debate going virtually nowhere for 6 long years.

If they gather behind the President and show the world we prefer peaceful uses of nuclear energy over using it for destruction of our fellow man, they are most wise. We all know the hate and lack of moral character of Fundamentalist Terrorists. That is equally true of Warmongers ruling the US Military since Kennedy was killed before he could remove us from Vietnam. The last Administration has Dick Cheney and Halliburton getting filthy rich over war.

This is personal for me in many ways:

          •  I have children and grandchildren who deserve to enjoy this beautiful earth --- over living deep in a cave as our planet goes to another age of possible un-inhabitability by mankind.

          •  I read the story from ancient biblical history of the Tower of Babel. Is it possible that tower is an ancient memory of a big rocket mankind was about to build to go to heaven and sit in front of God, the Creator? It stopped when God made them unable to talk in the same languages . . . according to the ancient account.

          •  I was a 6th grader in Atlanta during the Cuban Missile Crisis and saw firsthand the danger. As I attended Emory 1963-67, the basements of all the buildings were stacked with Civil Defense boxes of supplies, should Atlanta be nuked.

          •  It is one thing to live far out in the country and die slowly from nuclear poisoning. It is quite another to live at the epicenter only 10 miles from Five Points, Atlanta's center!

          •  The people of Nagasaki and Hiroshima who were turned to ashes were lucky --- the ones who got irradiated and died slowly or had cancer as the result died a slow death. Death by nuclear blast is a kind of Hell on Earth.

          •  We have seen with our own eyes the horror of a nuclear bomb which ended WWII in Japan.

          •  After that we had a spate of Sci-Fi movies like Rodan, Star Trek, and The Twilight Zone showing how strange things could get when man holds the power of the sun in his hands.

I grew up with a real fear --- and the false concept of "duck-and-cover." A child hiding under a wooden desk and near a wall has NO CHANCE when the power of the sun is unleashed above his head and spreads beneath in total annihilation!!!! One of our neighbors built a fallout shelter beside his home down the street. Would he let anyone outside his family enter it?

I had the personal FEAR experience growing up in Atlanta. It was a real time for this young boy! Like the Japanese cities that got the bomb, Atlanta was the Hub of the Southeast with all air, rail, communication, and highway arteries coursing through it. Atlanta was growing by the thousands of people each week. It was the closest large urban area to Cuba. It was full of Military targets like Fort Gordon, Federal Offices, Federal Penitentiary, several major hospitals and Universities like Georgia Tech. If you wanted to stop the new growth of the Southeast, then obliterate Atlanta!

Lest you think this is funny or remote, I remind you we have all the major military bases of the Southeast within 100 miles of Beaufort County. Planes from Cherry Point fly over Bayview as they go to their bombing range near Lake Mattamuskeet! Morehead City and Wilmington are the exit points for all military supplies and troops heading to the Middle East. Fort Bragg and Pope AFB are a 2.5 hour drive for me. Seymour-Johnson AFB is closer and SJ on the tails of jets we see in war footage means they are ours! Hyde County has the mockup of the ben Laden compound still!

One of those multiple warheads on top a big ICBM in Russia has us as a target!

Puff and blow all you want, but this Nonproliferation Treaty is our chance to live and enjoy the beauty of Eastern NC along with all our progeny. Mine all live from Elizabeth City to Washington and get to play on the Pamlico River at Beautiful Bayview.

We are blessed by God with a future for mankind --- ONLY when we seek Peace over War.

You clowns of conservatism sure will put down anything other than talk of a big bomb blowing us all back into the caves. Would there be any beach of cute gals then????

Perhaps they would all have cancers growing on their irradiated bodies . . .

Quit the BS, gentlemen, if you please . . .

Ted, I know this sounds weird from a 60 year old man, but girls are not as pretty, then I could be spoiled by my lovely wife's visage, who is about 13 months my junior.

Too much fat and too many tattoos.

You have no idea.

Have no fear Colonel --- I have readers who follow only 1 post at the time and want all to know I am having fun fishing. Not throwing chum to conservative sharks today beside the Pamlico. The Albemarle Sound is our host and the Roanoke River enters it here. Not that far from Manteo either or Chesapeake.

I may just have to go to Emerson' Pipe Shop there and get the good MacArthur blend they sell. The General lived there and still has a few books to read for instruction on "combating your enemies . . ."

Show it to me.

Gents---I am at my son's in Elizabeth City. He already has the smoker going and we got here too late to hit the water early. I have rested a bit more and now am ready to be entertained by the 3 Stooges --- BT / TMcD / Stan the Death man. . . I can't stand a day without the pain of your exploding paddles, boys!

If you are right: Then the 'big machine' wants Socialism and a diminished America at home an abroad.

I wish you were right about the not voting part, but I fear that they many do if motivated by a vapid demagogue, like Obama.

Ted, is it begging or demanding featured space for "'hate' speech"?

I look forward to 04 soon, as the 'vast right wing conspiracy' of Obama's DOJ closes in on Ms. Benghazi.

Ted, you forgot 'hate'.

The comment section is a waste of time. Good luck and good bye for awhile.
