Candidate for Mayor has a checkered past on Mecklenburg County Commission

    Charlotte, N.C. - With early voting for city elections in Charlotte beginning in two days, the North Carolina Republican Party released the following statement regarding the mayor's race:

• "Charlotte voters should know exactly what to expect from their next Mayor," said NCGOP Executive Director Dallas Woodhouse. "There's no better test on a candidate's ability to lead than to look at their record. Jennifer Roberts was removed as Chair of County Commission by another Democrat following a well-documented botched property revaluation that had to be redone at a cost of $45 million to Mecklenburg County. While some blame was directed toward County Manager Harry Jones, and Roberts failed to take action, Jones was removed from his position after Roberts' departure."

    Woodhouse added, "Jennifer Roberts raised property taxes in Mecklenburg County by more than 10%, while also supporting a budget that raised her own pay on County Commission. When Roberts ran up a large budget deficit on County Commission in 2010, she cut $150 million from schools, parks, libraries, and veterans' services. Roberts' record clearly shows just how poorly she will spend the people of Charlotte's hard-earned taxpayer dollars. After two straight tax hikes and a probable third in the near future, voters need to know that they have a mayor who will fight to keep more money in their pockets."

    Woodhouse continued, "Edwin Peacock has shown real leadership in his time as an At-Large City Councilman and is providing thoughtful plans for reducing crime and growing Charlotte's economy. Charlotte taxpayers have a friend and ally in Edwin Peacock."
