Governor McCrory Urges President Obama To Reconsider Veto Threat After Rep. Hudson's Bill Passes With Strong Bipartisan Support | Eastern NC Now

 Raleigh, N.C.     Governor Pat McCrory strongly urged President Barack Obama to reconsider his veto threat after the U.S House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly to approve a bill sponsored by North Carolina Representative Richard Hudson to halt the administration's plan to take in thousands of Syrian and Iraqi refugees until it can assure they don't pose a security risk.

 In the vote, 47 Democrats joined 242 Republicans in favor of the bill, creating a majority in the U.S. House that could override President Barrack Obama's veto.

 "For the sake of our country's safety and security, I strongly urge the president to reconsider his veto threat," said Governor McCrory. "The people of North Carolina expect our commander-in-chief to do everything in his power to ensure our citizens are safe and unite this country around a solution to the threat posed by ISIS, not alienate and attack people who disagree with him. This is no longer just governors urging the president to halt this program, it is now a bipartisan majority in the U.S. House demanding the president to listen and change course. I applaud Representative Hudson for leading the charge in Washington to keep our state and nation safe."

 Yesterday, a key General Assembly committee joined other state and local leaders and voted unanimously to support the governor's stance on Syrian refugees.
