Memo to President Obama: You are in trouble, sir | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Memo to President Barack Obama:

You are in trouble. Deep, deep trouble. The evidence to support that contention is all around, but none more profound than Maureen Dowd's piece in the Sunday New York Times. Dowd, who one suspect's would trade her first born for Obama's success, says:

"The leader who was once a luminescent, inspirational force is now just a guy in a really bad spot."

"...And why is the White House so cocky about Obama as a TV draw against quick-draw Rick Perry? As James Carville acerbically noted, given a choice between watching an Obama speech and a G.O.P. debate, "I'd watch the debate, and I'm not even a Republican."

Obama is still suffering from the Speech Illusion, the idea that he can come down from the mountain, read from a Teleprompter, cast a magic spell with his words and climb back up the mountain, while we scurry around and do what he proclaimed.

The days of spinning illusions in a Greek temple in a football stadium are done. The One is dancing on the edge of one term.

The White House team is flailing -- reacting, regrouping, retrenching. It's repugnant.

"Maybe Obama was not even the person he was waiting for. "

Click here if you want to commiserate with Dowd. If you are a Republican, a Tea Partier or even one of the growing legion of unaffiliated voters who are leading the pack in turning against Obama you don't want nor need to read more. You already know what Dowd and the Elite Media is coming to realize. Barack Obama was an illusion.

Obama is in a trap. He wants a second term. But his first term, even with most of it with a Democrat controlled Congress, has been a dismal failure. Unlike most presidents in recent years, his failure comes not from not getting his initiatives through Congress, because he got nearly everything he asked for until last year, but because what he got passed did not work. It not only did not work, much of what he has done has actually made things worse. We'll spare you the list. If you don't already realize he has the worst record of any modern president no list is going to suddenly convince you.

Americans are severely disillusioned with government...at all levels. While that disillusionment preceeded his nomination, Obama rode that disillusionment into office in 2008 with only 53% of the vote. He's been on a downhill slide ever since. All he can do now is claim that he inherited a bad gig and the mean ole Republicans don't like him. Trouble is, for him, that dog won't hunt.

The reality is that most people don't believe Obama or any president can fix what they think is fundamentally wrong with our nation. They may not be sure about what they think is wrong and why it is wrong, but they are smart enough to know that government is not working like it is supposed to work...in Washington, D. C., Raleigh or Beaufort County. They believe the people running government, from both parties, are not working to make government work for the average, work-a-day Americans but rather to feather their own nest by catering to special interests. Sarah Palin has picked up on this and she calls it "crony capitalism."

Barack Obama ran on "Hope and Change" and the change he has brought has not been perceived as good for most Americans. And he is losing a war.

When American don't think government is making their life better they are not so willing to grant dispensation to political leaders. If the average American is dissatisfied he and she will vote against whoever is in power at the top. And most Americans do not like to lose. And they especially do not like to lose wars.

But the main reason Obama is in trouble is that the Elite Media is turning against him. Maureen Dowd is the epitome of the Elite Media.

The Elite Media created Barack Obama and they will bring him down just as easily as they created him if he has no record to run on that would appeal to the middle of the voter spectrum. The "swing voter" is what elected Obama and his fate will be determined again by the swing voters and his base that fails to turn out in 2012 like they did in 2008.

Barack Obama is in serious trouble. But the worst of it for him is that he does not have a clue how to fix it. The Teleprompter will not save him from his dismal failure as a leader. We will see that on Thursday night.
