I am Suffering from Trump Fatigue | Eastern North Carolina Now

I do believe that I truly do understand the whole Trump zeitgeist, and blind loyalty thing ... wait, uhhh ... no ... no I don't. In fact, when Trump speaks, my auditory senses shut down. I just do not hear a word he says. I think it may be a matter of substance, or lack thereof.

Donald J. Trump is a phenomenon, he is a esoteric political wonderment, and I just don't care anymore. Right now, I could write extemporaneously to explain why Businessman Trump is scoring so well with a disaffected electorate, but, I reiterate, I just don't care ... and, maybe, I really never did; but what real emotion Trump does elicit from me now is just plain boredom.

And, while I could mostly claim the fatigue factor, the boredom factor, I must also admit that Trump just rubs me the wrong way. I don't understand or appreciate the: raw conjecture; the steroidal insults; the complete lack of policy explanation; the abject narcissism; the flip flopping and re-flipping; the nuanced conservatism (actually non conservatism); and, most especially, the pragmatism at the expense of principle for the sake of connecting with an unwary public - this I understand.

My wariness of Trump is evolved, originally, from my life experiences, mostly as a politician /low level government official - county commissioner - for 18 years. During all those years fighting the good fight for my constituents - actual Conservatives and those that struggled to attain the principles of such. During those years in the local political fishbowl, I never forsook my Conservative principles, and I have been financially punished (it is proved that I still am) by local cronies and the RINOs, who are controlled by these unprincipled cronies; so, all of these feeble protestations that Trump gets a pass on his past unprincipled behavior because it is 'just business' does not pass muster with me.

Furthermore, and I speak from experience here similar to Trump's, I too was a Democrat, but I switched, long ago before Trump did, in 1991 or 1992 due to two presidents - one past and one yet to be - Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton. There are few men I have respected more than Ronald Reagan, and, in 1991/1992, there had been few that I had respected less than Bill Clinton; I pegged Bill Clinton as a liar early on his 'I smoked marijuana, but I didn't inhale' comment.

As a Young Republican, I labored in the political vineyards, working for candidates, and then was elected as a county commissioner, first in 1994. As a real Conservative, unlike many of the RINOs (some of whom I heavily helped before I learned of their devout RINOism), I never strayed from my Conservative principles, always voted 'Right', and after my 5 terms as a commissioner, I have only one true peer, in modern Beaufort County history (last 60 years), for being actually right and wise, in hindsight, for all the hundreds of major votes that was my obligation to decide. This has angered the local cronies, who depend on unprincipled politicians, to get the special treatment - their brand of welfare.

So, you have to understand why I can not come to appreciate the Trump aura, the devotion to the over spoken, but under committed candidate, who, even though he now seeks the highest office in the land, knows nothing of governing as a Conservative, or even being one.

From policy votes, or by resolution, I have voted to: protect the unborn, to guarantee our 2nd Amendment rights, to bolster our first Amendment rights to free political speech when Authoritarian commissioners sought to restrict it, stand against government fraud and waste, and up for personal liberty, and against the ugly privilege of cronyism, etc., etc. And while I stood strong for my constituents, I never used foul language or insulted my fellow commissioners by intent; however, the truth can be a cruel mistress for the dishonest, and there are so many dishonest politicians. This I have first hand knowledge of, and, sadly, it is too prevalent.

No, maybe from my broad experience in service of my community, or maybe it is because I don't get the whole 'New York values' thing, but, right now, I do suffer from severe Trump fatigue, and I can not see any recovery on the horizon.

An ongoing disclaimer here: Donald J. Trump could get my vote as the last Republican standing. I would never vote for a Socialist moron, and I could never vote for a non patriot, who is a chronic liar ... So. I beg all Americans: Please do not force me to vote for Donald J. Trump.

Alex, I get that.

In fact, of all of us, I probably wax more pissed off than all of us, and, consequently, my wife is oft to remind me what an unredeeming trait that is, and Lord knows, I need to work on it.

I just think there are better prospects for the highest office, hence the unwary comment, and that is why I have supported Ted Cruz.

If Trump wins, however, I will pray for him to be that guy that proves me wrong, because, we really are on a bad road. I love my country, if for no other reason, for those of you that have done your good part to save the Republic. I will pray that Trump will be worthy to serve as your president, and I will vote for him should he be the Republican nominee.

It could never be Hillary B. or Bernie for me.

I can't see how any patriot could vote for either of them. War vets, for whatever reason they may choose to vote for one of these two non patriots, will always get a full pass with me. I would never try to rationalize the why of it. They get a life time pass carte blanche.

Stan, you wrote...”the pragmatism at the expense of principle for the sake of connecting with an unwary public - this I understand.”

Remember I am a Picky Person. You brushed by the real reason why Trump is so popular.

It is not that the public is unwary. It is just the opposite. The public is very wary. The public is tired of being told one thing during campaigns &, once elected, the One Things are completely forgotten by the Now Elected Former Campaigner.

The Wary Public is Grasping at a Straw by thinking... All those others were politicians. This guy is not a politician. Maybe he will be different.

TMAC, I remember now, the only way I could have said less was to talk longer. Thanks for the reminder. Based on last night results, I should to stick to something besides politics. I have been rejected by some very fine members of the fairer gender but Stan is correct, the less said the better but I am a slow learner.

Talking about women will always get one in trouble, so, the less said the better.

The folks are reading political articles until NC votes next week. Fluff will be interesting later. BT: We were talking about "All I know about Women." Short conversation. I know to listen for emotion and not content. That would be a good FILLER article.

My wife would agree with this statement: I believe am looking in a mirror.

TMAC and I had lunch a month or so ago, and by my count he only got in about a dozen words during the whole lunch. But I must admit they were direct and to the point in true minimalist fashion. I forgot what the subject or subjects were but knowing me, it was wide a ranging and unfocused conversation; just like most of my post.

B.T., my brother of a different mother, you do as you wish here at BCN. It is all well appreciated, and I do appreciate the creativity.

Ted McDonald should be your first subject. My buddy, Hood, would be mine: beaufortcountynow.com

I am resisting the temptation to psychoanalyze anyone who would support Trump during this primary, but it obviously points up the fact that I am terribly out of touch with what appears to me to be a gullible public willing to buy anything this snake oil salesman offers.

Pardon the consecutive cliche' comments and links.

Oh, Wow; I did not realize that I was working this post as a published post. I thought it was unpublished.

I will finish it now.

Stan, I think I agree with you.

“Alice: Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?
The Cheshire Cat: That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.
Alice: I don't much care where.
The Cheshire Cat: Then it doesn't much matter which way you go.
Alice: ...So long as I get somewhere.
The Cheshire Cat: Oh, you're sure to do that, if only you walk long enough.”
