Governor McCrory Salutes Goldsboro for “Great American Defense Community” Award | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Raleigh, N.C.     Governor Pat McCrory commends Goldsboro (Wayne County) for being recognized as one of ten "Great American Defense Communities" in the nation by the Association of Defense Communities and the Defense Communities Caucus.

    "I salute Goldsboro and Wayne County for this well-deserved recognition. All of North Carolina owes this region a debt of gratitude for their continued support of our servicemembers and their families," said Governor McCrory. "One of my top priorities is ensuring North Carolina is the most military and veteran-friendly state in the country and I am proud that Goldsboro is being recognized as a national leader among defense communities."

    The Great American Defense Communities program was launched this year to acknowledge the unique contributions made by communities that host military installations to improve quality of life for servicemembers, veterans and their families. This inaugural class of communities was selected by a panel of defense community advocates and experts from dozens of nominees based on the broad range of efforts to support military personnel and their families. These supportive efforts include education, job opportunities, housing, family support during deployments and community appreciation.
