ENCNow
Born: October 19, 1957, Died: July 18, 2016

Reverend Doctor James A. "Jimmy" Moore, Jr., joined that great cloud of witnesses on Monday, July 18, 2016 surrounded by his family. For the past 23 years, Jimmy served the First Baptist Church of Washington, North Carolina as Pastor. Jimmy was born on October 19, 1957 in Union, South Carolina.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Karen H. Moore: his daughter Stephanie Moore Warren and husband Stuart; grandchildren Raley, Brennon and Lyda Warren; his daughter, Amie Moore O'Kane and husband Kyle; grandchildren Owen, Lawson and Graycen O'Kane all of Washington, North Carolina.

He is also survived by his mother Joyce T. Moore and brothers, Mike and his wife, Tammy, Joe Moore and his wife, Lawanna of Union, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Tara Michelle Moore and his father, James Alfred Moore, Sr. "Al"

Jimmy considered the congregation of First Baptist Church as part of his family. They loved, encouraged, supported and walked with him through his journey with cancer. He was constantly overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness of people, especially the good people of Beaufort County.

Jimmy was a 1975 graduate of Union High School. He received a BA degree from Gardner-Webb University; a Master of Divinity degree from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary; and a Doctor of Ministry degree from the Columbia Theological Seminary. In addition, he completed his Clinical Pastoral Education at the University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia. He was ordained by the Fairview Baptist Church of Union, South Carolina in August of 1978. Jimmy was a 2011 recipient of the Lilly Endowment Clergy Renewal Grant. Prior to coming to Washington he served churches in South Carolina and Mississippi.

Jimmy served on various denominational boards and committees, but was most proud of First Baptist's involvement in missions. For more than twenty years the church has sponsored a Hispanic Mission in the City of Washington. In addition, for the last two decades, First Baptist has had an ongoing mission partnership with Swaziland, Africa. Jimmy personally led many mission teams to Swaziland to help in the planting of new churches, teach discipleship, train and develop new pastors and to do medical missions work.

In addition to his love of missions, ministry and preaching, Jimmy had a passion for nature photography. Some of his favorite locations were the Outer Banks, in particular the wild horses, The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, waterfalls, Cades Cove, and black bear; and Kruger National Park, South Africa, the big five.

A service of Worship, Hope and Resurrection will be held at First Baptist Church of Washington, North Carolina on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at 3:00 PM. A service of Christian Burial will follow at the Oakdale Cemetery in Washington.

The following will serve as pallbearers: Reverend Terry Messenger, Keith Mitchell, Kevin Mitchell, Robert Gautier, Jaret Warren and Andrew Barmer.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 12 Noon Saturday, July 23, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Washington and a reception will follow after the burial in the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to the Swaziland Partnership Fund, the Widow's Mite Fund, or the Music Ministry Endowment Fund of First Baptist Church, 113 North Harvey Street, Washington, N.C. 27889.

Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.paulfuneralhome.com

This is a very important obituary about a very good man here in the Beaufort County community.
Jimmy Moore was a smart man, a compassionate man, a God fearing man, who, moreover, concentrated on revealing a loving Father, a welcoming Divine essence.
Now, Jimmy is in the presence of that Great Creator of all that is the wonderment of good, the essence of infinity, and now: Heaven is a better place today for having received this good man.
