      Sunday, September 4, 2016       Introduction to Goose Creek State Park       10:00 am

    Learn about the state park’s system and all that Goose Creek has to offer. Great for people visiting or new to the area. Meet at the visitor center.

      Saturday, September 10, 2016       Grandparent’s Day Fishing Event       9:00 am

    Grandparents, bring your grandchildren and meet at the swim beach for a chance to fish the brackish waters of the Pamlico River. This program is for ages 6 and up. We will practice casting, baiting a hook and hopefully taking fish off the hooks. This will be a catch release program. Fishing license are not required for the program. Space is limited, so registration is required. Please call the park at 252-923-2191 to register. All equipment will be provided, however, feel free to bring your own. Wear clothes and shoes you do not mind getting wet and sunscreen.


      Saturday, September 17, 2016       Black Bears of Eastern NC       2:00 pm

    Have you ever seen a bear in the wild? Eastern North Carolina is full of these amazing creatures. Please meet at the park visitor center to learn all about these illusive large beauties.

      Saturday, September 24, 2016       Celebrate Take a Child Outside Week with a Flatty Creek Hike       10:00 am

    Meet at the campground parking lot to enjoy a relaxing half mile hike out to Flatty Creek. This area of the park is part of a National Natural Landmark which was established due to the diverse ecosystems. Feel free to bring bottled water, sunscreen and bug spray.

      Saturday, October 8, 2016       Palmetto Boardwalk Hike       10:00 am

    As the seasons begin to change the views and experiences in the park do as well. Join a ranger for a leisurely stroll down the Palmetto Boardwalk. Meet at the visitor center.

      Sunday, October 16, 2016       Mallard Creek Hike       2:00 pm

    Take a short walk down to Mallard Creek and check out our new proposed trail extension. Meet in the last parking lot.

      Saturday, October 22, 2016       Creatures of the Night       10:00 am

    With Halloween just around the corner, Goose Creek State Park can help set the mood. Join a ranger in the park’s visitor center to learn about some of our most common nocturnal creatures.

      Saturday, October 29, 2016       Owl Prowl       5:00 pm

    Enjoy your evening identifying and studying some of North Carolina’s native owls. You’ll learn the owl facts and maybe catch a glimpse of these fascinating creatures. Meet at the visitor center.

      Sunday, November 6, 2016       All About Bears       2:00 pm

   

      Saturday, November 12, 2016       History Hike       10:00 am

    Learn about the history of the area starting with the establishment of North Carolina’s first town on this interpretive hike of Live Oak Trail. Meet in the last parking lot.

      Saturday, November 19, 2016       Palmetto Hike       10:00 am

    Take a one-mile walking tour of the boardwalk and view a freshwater swamp that is transitioning to a brackish water marsh all without getting your feet wet. Meet at the visitor center.

      Saturday, November 26, 2016       Turkeymon Scavenger Hunt       10:00 am

    Meet at the park office to “hunt” for turkeys and turkey signs in the park. Bring your phones and take pictures of the turkeys you find. The winner will receive a prize. You will also learn critter stalking techniques. This program is great for all ages.

      Saturday, December 3, 2016       Forestry Festival       10:00 am

    Goose Creek State Park will hold a Forestry Festival in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the NC State Park System. There will be presentations by NC Forestry and park staff. This event will include tar kiln demonstrations, hikes and other activities. There will also be long leaf pine seedlings available for planting in restoration areas of the park and also available to take home. Look for more information in the coming months.

      Saturday, December 11, 2016       Basics of Prescribed Burning       2:00 pm

    Fire is a valuable tool in maintaining a healthy ecosystem. We will talk about the reason why we burn, how we burn and how it can benefit the landscape. Meet at the visitor center.
