Grandparent’s Day Fishing Event
9:00 am
Grandparents, bring your grandchildren and meet at the swim beach for a chance to fish the brackish waters of the Pamlico River. This program is for ages 6 and up. We will practice casting, baiting a hook and hopefully taking fish off the hooks. This will be a catch release program. Fishing license are not required for the program. Space is limited, so registration is required. Please call the park at 252-923-2191 to register. All equipment will be provided, however, feel free to bring your own. Wear clothes and shoes you do not mind getting wet and sunscreen.

Celebrate Take a Child Outside Week with a Flatty Creek Hike

Meet at the campground parking lot to enjoy a relaxing half mile hike out to Flatty Creek. This area of the park is part of a National Natural Landmark which was established due to the diverse ecosystems. Feel free to bring bottled water, sunscreen and bug spray.

Take a one-mile walking tour of the boardwalk and view a freshwater swamp that is transitioning to a brackish water marsh all without getting your feet wet. Meet at the visitor center.

Turkeymon Scavenger Hunt

Meet at the park office to “hunt” for turkeys and turkey signs in the park. Bring your phones and take pictures of the turkeys you find. The winner will receive a prize. You will also learn critter stalking techniques. This program is great for all ages.

Forestry Festival

Goose Creek State Park will hold a Forestry Festival in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the NC State Park System. There will be presentations by NC Forestry and park staff. This event will include tar kiln demonstrations, hikes and other activities. There will also be long leaf pine seedlings available for planting in restoration areas of the park and also available to take home. Look for more information in the coming months.
