Who Is Paying For The Latest False Attack Ad Against Pat McCrory? | Eastern North Carolina Now

Press Release:

Raleigh, N.C.     Roy Cooper's out-of-state union and liberal billionaire bosses have launched another false and negative TV ad against the governor. This time, it is being funded by a secretive group which calls itself "North Carolina Citizens for Protecting Our Schools" and does not publicly release its donors.

But according to the Center for Public Integrity, North Carolina Citizens for Protecting Our Schools is a passthrough organization largely funded by the national teachers union and a George Soros aligned super PAC, America Votes:

  • "Between 40 percent and 50 percent of that sum is projected to come from wealthy donors connected to the Democracy Alliance, a secretive nonprofit whose funders include the likes of billionaire investor George Soros and author, horticulturalist and philanthropist Amy Goldman." (Source)

The Washington Free Beacon uncovered documents that show America Votes is backed by "high-dollar donors to a new Democracy Alliance effort" spearheaded by George Soros who are "focused on building Democratic power in the states" by funneling millions in contributions to state-level political and advocacy groups, such as the group launching a new attack ad against the governor today.

Like America Votes, the national teachers union is also a member of George Soros' 'Democracy Alliance' and has funded Moral Monday protests opposing Governor McCrory's efforts to increase teacher pay and improve education in North Carolina. North Carolina is one of the Democracy Alliance's top targets in 2016.

Since taking office, Governor McCrory has worked to increase teacher pay to $50,000 plus benefits, triple funding for textbooks and invest in reducing class sizes for grades K-3. Education funding has increased by 13% under Governor McCrory's watch to a historic high. The latest attack ad bankrolled by out-of-state special interests cites opinion and editorial sources to push a false narrative about Governor McCrory's efforts to improve education, all in an effort to elect a puppet of the teacher's union, Roy Cooper.

"Roy Cooper and the teacher's union were willing accomplices as North Carolina's teacher pay fell more than any other state to the bottom of the pack before Governor McCrory took office," said Ricky Diaz, Pat McCrory's campaign spokesman. "They are attacking Governor McCrory's record of improving education and increasing teacher pay to distract voters from Roy Cooper's terrible record of cutting education and letting teacher pay fall behind more than any other state in the country."
