Deborah Ross Distances Herself From Hillary Clinton | Eastern North Carolina Now

Press Release:

RALEIGH, NC     Democratic Senate candidate Deborah Ross blasted Hillary Clinton Tuesday during a campaign stop, saying Clinton's "mess has to be cleaned up," following revelations that Hillary Clinton withheld nearly 15,000 emails from investigators and that over half of Clinton's non-governmental meetings while Secretary of State were with Clinton Foundation donors. Ross took a hard line on Clinton's email scandal saying: "It was wrong. No two ways about it," and "I would tell Hillary Clinton to her face that she handled her email in the wrong way." Interestingly, just days before, Deborah Ross proclaimed in an WRAL interview that Hillary Clinton is "trustworthy."

"It's clear Deborah Ross knows North Carolinians don't trust Hillary Clinton and that the latest developments into Clinton's unethical behavior are even more damaging than the last," said NCGOP Chairman Robin Hayes. "While Deborah Ross has had several chances to tell Hillary Clinton to her face that what she did was wrong, she's never actually done so. If Ross is serious about holding Hillary Clinton accountable, she'll ask Clinton to end her 264 day streak and hold a press conference in North Carolina to address her Foundation scandal. With Ross' latest reaction to her nominee and her hesitation to say whether or not Clinton is trustworthy - it's hard to imagine that Ross actually believes that Clinton can be trusted."

During her campaign stop, Ross made sure to note that while Hillary Clinton may have built a pay-to-play structure during her time at the State Department, Ross fought against pay-to-play practices: "I have a record on ethics legislation in the General Assembly, making sure that we have transparency, making sure that we don't have a pay-to-play system, making sure that donors and special interests don't get special access and special perks...When you are a representative of the people and you earn their trust, the people have to come first, not the big money, not the special interests."
