News Release:

October 19, 2016-Washington, NC:     Beaufort County Commission Vice-Chairman Gary Brinn announced the following today. The North Carolina State Board of Elections has found against Derik Davis on two issues relating to his campaign for County Commissioner. The findings include the following:

    (1) Derik Davis violated North Carolina state law for his illegal cash payment to political operative Ken Robol. The State Board has fined Davis $400.00 for this illegal disbursement.

    (2) Derik Davis violated North Carolina state law for his illegal flyer that he distributed in the Cypress Landing community dated October 14, 2016. Davis failed to put a disclaimer on this flyer as mandated by North Carolina law. Davis has 15 days to admit ownership of the letter in the local newspaper of record.

The lead investigator in this case, Compliance Specialist Sheryll Harris, made these findings public in a phone conversation with Commissioner Brinn on October 18, 2016. She can be contacted at 919-733-7133 to verify this ruling by the NC State Board of Elections to any interested party. Commissioner Brinn stated, "If Davis can't be honest and truthful about something as simple as following North Carolina law for campaign finance -- he can't be trusted as an elected official in any capacity. He is unfit for office."
