    Mrs. Grace Elizabeth Hewett "Lib" Latham, age 97, a resident of East 10th Street, Washington, died Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at her home.

    Funeral services will be held 3:30 PM Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the First Christian Church in Washington conducted by Rev. Jacob Kines. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

    The following will serve as pallbearers: Forrest Latham, Lee Latham, Hobie Brown, Allen Brown, Mike Kelly and Sean Weaver. Honorary pallbearers will be Chad Hardee, Dillon Moran and James Chitmon.

    Mrs. Latham was born in Wilmington, N.C. on April 13, 1919. She was the daughter of the late James Baschum Hewett and Grace Patrick Hewett. She was a retired restauranteur. Mrs. Latham and her husband, Raymond, owned the Rendezvous Restaurant for many years. She was a member of First Christian Church and the Ladies' Circles. Mrs. Latham was a member of several bridge clubs and loved playing canasta with her friends. She was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star and an active member of the Lunch Bunch, which included Tootsie Cox, Dottie Bunch, Edna Woolard, Louise Cutler and Deborah Roebuck.

    In her spare time, Mrs. Latham loved all kinds of arts and crafts. She was an artist, a poet, and a writer. Mrs. Latham was a past member of the DeMille Book Club and a past member of the Pamlico Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening and sending cards to her family and friends.

    Mrs. Latham married Raymond Lee Latham on January 7, 1942, he preceded her in death, June 8, 1984.

    She is survived by her son, Raymond "Lee" Latham, Jr. and his wife, Anita Grace Chitmon Latham of Washington; grandson, Forrest Lee Latham and wife Morgan of Colorado Springs, CO; two granddaughters, Danielle Nichole latham and her boyfriend, Dillion Moran of Greenville, Kaylee Grace Jackson and her boyfriend, Chad Hardee of Washington; three nephews, Hobart Brown of Washington, Allen Brown and wife, Clair of Greenville, Dr. James Hewett Brown of Racine, Wisconsin; and cousin, Barbara Jones of Washington.

    In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Latham was preceded in death by her sister and brother in law, Flora Belle Hewett Brown and George Hobart Brown; and her "Special Angel" sister, Jackie Hewett.

    The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM Friday, October 21, 2016 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Christian Church Living Water Praise Band, 307 East 3rd Street, Washington, NC 27889.
