Governor McCrory Asks Federal Government to Extend Hot Food Waiver For All 100 Counties | Eastern North Carolina Now

    Raleigh, N.C.     Governor Pat McCrory has sent a letter to the federal government requesting that the statewide hot food waiver be extended until November 30. This request will help meet the needs of individuals and families still affected by Hurricane Matthew.

    "Our recovery efforts are well underway, yet we still have people affected by the storm who have been unable to resume their normal lives," said Governor McCrory. "This request to extend hot food and hot food products for immediate consumption will allow those affected to continue to get the nutritional services they require."

    The U.S. Department of Agriculture previously approved North Carolina's request for a hot meal waiver in all 100 counties until November 14, allowing Food and Nutrition Services recipients to purchase hot meals prepared for immediate consumption from authorized Electronic Benefits Transfer retailers.

    The governor has encouraged individuals and groups to help in the relief efforts by making a financial or other contribution. Monetary contributions to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund for Hurricane Matthew can be made by texting NCRECOVERS to 30306 or by visiting NCDisasterRelief.org. This is one of the best ways to help fund long-term recovery efforts.
