Tillis Led Effort To Secure More Than $300 Million For North Carolina's Recovery Efforts

    WASHINGTON, D.C.     Tonight, the Senate passed a continuing resolution (CR) that keeps the government funded until April and provides North Carolina with more than $300 million in recovery assistance for damage caused by Hurricane Matthew. Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) led the North Carolina Congressional delegation's effort to secure the disaster assistance for North Carolina, which will soon be allocated to the state for initial immediate needs to assist the recovery effort.

    "The continuing resolution passed by Congress will provide North Carolina with more than $300 million in immediate assistance to rebuild homes, businesses, schools and roads in wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Matthew," said Senator Tillis. "The recovery process will be long and tough, and in the months ahead, I will be working closely with Governor-elect Cooper and my colleagues in Congress to ensure that North Carolina has the financial resources it needs to become whole again."

    The Hurricane Matthew recovery assistance for North Carolina contained in the CR includes funding for:

• Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG - DR), which will support community needs including housing, infrastructure and jobs. This funding will be critical for long-term recovery efforts in eastern North Carolina.
• USDA Emergency Conservation Program (ECP), which will assist with repairing farm roads, restoring fencing, conservation practices and debris removal.
• Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Emergency Highway Funding, which will help restore damaged roads, clear debris, and reopen critical roadways that were damaged.
• The Army Corps of Engineers, which will repair damage on Army Corp properties in North Carolina caused by Hurricane Matthew.
