Press Release:

Raleigh, NC     Today the North Carolina Senate provided Larry Hall with a third and final opportunity to come before them for his confirmation hearing. After refusing to show up at his previous two hearings, they announced that a subpoena would be issued to Hall if he did not show up at the 1:00 PM hearing today. The North Carolina constitution gives the Senate the power and authority to confirm Governor Roy Cooper's Cabinet secretaries. Senator Rabin even stated a few weeks ago that he expected the Senate to confirm the Cabinet picks. Unless Larry Hall and Governor Cooper have something to hide, why is Governor Cooper taking on a Richard Nixon persona and instructing his Cabinet members to break the law?

"We have seen time and time again that Governor Cooper would rather draw out issues and keep his name in the headlines instead of doing what is best for the people. Instructing his Cabinet members to ignore their oath really shows just how far he is willing to go. Asking government officials to follow the law should not be a controversial subject. North Carolina deserves better than a governor who doesn't even believe in the constitution he was elected to uphold." -Dallas Woodhouse, NCGOP Executive Director

Article 5A Chapter 120 of the North Carolina General Statutes gives the committees the authority to issue subpoenas. The person receiving it is then lawfully required to appear before the court that issued it. Following Hall's no-show at 1:00 PM today, the Senate Committee on Commerce and Insurance voted to issue the subpoena, which calls for Hall's attendance and testimony before the committee on March 2, 2017 at 11:00 AM inside the legislative building.
