Died: July 19, 1935, Died: June 1, 2017

    Mrs. Claudia Dunbar Allen, age 81, a resident of Roper, NC, died Thursday June 1, 2017 at Vidant Chowan Hospital.

    A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday June 4, 2017 at Davis Cemetery and will be officiated

    by Walter Taylor and singing by his wife, Elaine Taylor.

    Mrs. Allen was born in Durham County on July 19, 1935. She was raised by Mrs. Maggie Taylor. Most people know Mrs. Allen by "Mrs. Jo" and "Mammy". She was a strong, kind hearted, caring women that loved her family. She enjoyed taking care of others and worked hard her whole life. She received her CNA degree from Beaufort Tech, and worked in healthcare for many years. She was a blessing to so many in the community by taking care of their elderly loved ones. She loved to travel, and visited several countries including Germany, Italy, and France. She would take trips to the mountains in the fall and take pictures of the leaves changing colors. Every summer she took vacations with loved ones to Myrtle Beach SC. Mrs. Jo loved to paint, and was quite the artist. She enjoyed collecting antiques, and owned an antique shop years ago. She was married to Leon Dunbar for 43 wonderful years, the best years of her life. On Thursday Mrs. Jo peacefully gained her angel wings and is now reunited with the love of her life in heaven.

    She is survived by her husband, Roy Allen, Sr., a son, Kenneth Ashley Dunbar of Wenona, two

    granddaughters, Laura Ashley Moore and husband Tanner of Washington, Heather Bryant and husband

    Todd of Winterville, three great grandchildren, Avery Mae Moore, Hunter Bryant, and Carter Bryant.

    She is preceded in death by two brothers Paul Stilley, Dick Taylor, and a sister Pauline Stilley.

    The family will receive friends at the home of her granddaughter Laura Ashley Moore, 150 Mill Hole Road Washington, NC 27889.

    Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
