Press Release:

GREENVILLE, N.C.     Uptown Greenville will soon be the home of The Shave on Fifth, a full-service barbershop offering hot lather shaves to keep the men looking sharp.

The historic building at 212 E. Fifth St. is being restored and revitalized, and the space will feature its exposed brick along with rich wood and touches of iron and leather, said owner Mike Maida. Billed as fine men's grooming, every haircut will include a neck shave and a hot towel massage. To cap off the visit, The Shave on Fifth will serve coffee from one of its neighbors, Blackbeard Coffee Roasters.

Coming from generations of barbers and hairstylists in New York and Florida, he and wife Emily relocated from metro Atlanta, a return home for Emily. "The vibe of Uptown reminds us of a smaller midtown Atlanta and we both love seeing all the additions of retail shops, restaurants, yoga studios, pop up shops, arts and events in Uptown," Maida said. "We want to support the growth of this area."

A licensed barber and cosmetologist, Maida trained at the Paul Mitchell School in Atlanta and worked at American Haircuts, where the bosses he learned from encouraged him to open his own barbershop in Greenville. He is drawn to the chatter, the smell of the products, and the smiling, freshly styled clients of a barbershop, an experience he said is perfect for the location, close to the arts community, university students, professionals, and dining.

The shop will start with four chairs and grow to six or eight. Walk-ins are welcome, and booking is available online or through The Shave on Fifth App.
