    Mr. Otis A. Godfrey, age 94, a resident of 810 River Road, Washington, N.C. died Thursday, December 21, 2017, at his home.

    The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday, December 23, 2017, at First Baptist Church in Washington, N. C. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM Saturday in the Sanctuary of First Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Greg Barmer. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.

    The following will serve as pallbearers: Paul Bright, Terry Cook, Tommy Cox, James Godfrey, Larry Loving and Devon Mish.

    Mr. Godfrey was born Pasquotank County on November 6, 1923. He was the son of the late Merrit Kilgo Godfrey and Lina Bell Spruill Godfrey. Mr. Godfrey served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He owned and operated Godfrey's Grocery, worked at National Spinning, and then as a salesman for Pamlico Memorial Gardens, Hilton's Men Shop and retired from N.C. Natural Gas. Mr. Godfrey was a member of First Baptist Church, Timberlake/Baraca Sunday School class and the V.F.W. In his spare time, he enjoyed cutting fire wood and spending time on the river.

    On March 29, 1946, he married the former Helen Elizabeth Cox, who preceded him in death, February 1, 2012.

    Mr. Godfrey is survived by two daughters, Carole Godfrey Hill of Roper, Kay Godfrey Woolard and husband, Jeffrey, of Washington; two grandchildren, Tiffany Cook Coltrain and husband, Greg, Ryan Godfrey Quidley; step grandchild, Kathy Hardison and husband, Glenn; three great grandchildren, Jewel Cook, Mollie and Mallorie Cook-Coltrain; and three step great grandchildren, Kalyn, Hagen, and Mara.

    In addition to his parents and his wife, Mr. Godfrey was preceded in death by a sister, Winnie Godfrey Parker; three brothers, Richard Godfrey, L. A. Godfrey, Belmert Godfrey and son in law, Bobby Hill.

    The family will receive friends at other times at his home.

    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 113 North Harvey Street, Washington, N.C 27889.
