    Mr. Walter Thomas Hannan, Sr., age 90, a resident of Wilson, died peacefully while surrounded by his family on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at his home.

    A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 20, 2018 at First United Methodist Church of Wilson, officiated by Rev. Bob Bergland. A graveside committal service will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington.

    The family will receive friends at the home.

    Mr. Hannan was born in Essex County, NJ on June 29, 1927. He was the son of the late Thomas Francis Hannan and the late Rosalie Smaw Morgan Hannan. He was a 1945 graduate of Washington High School and served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following his military service, Mr. Hannan continued his education at East Carolina University.

    On February 1, 1951, he married the former Lois "Opal" Everett, and had four children. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Ann Hannan, on April 23, 1958, and by his wife on December 2, 2003. Mr. Hannan was a sales representative with the Agriculture division of Morton Salt Co. for thirty-five years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Wilson, and an active member of the community. He participated in the Wilson Masonic Lodge #712, Mt. Lebonan York Rites Bodies, Sudan Temple of Wilson County, Wilson County Shrine Club, and was a proud member of the Flag Unit of Sudan Temple.

    Survivors include a daughter: Lois H. Rhodes and son-in-law, Larry, of Flat Rock, NC; two sons: W. Thomas Hannan, Jr. of Ocracoke and Richard L. Hannan of Wilson; three grandaughters: Megan Rhodes of Flat Rock, Maggie Rhodes of New York, NY and Morgan Swinson and her husband Burt of Chinquapin and three great grandchildren: Maddie, Colt, and Case Swinson.

    The family would like to extend a special appreciation to 3HC Hospice and the Sunshine Agency for their compassionate care.

    In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks for memorial contributions be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607-1416 or to Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College Ave., Oxford, NC 27565.
