Jones Continues Push to Defund Sanctuary Cities | Eastern NC Now

    WASHINGTON, DC     Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) is continuing efforts to defund municipalities that defy federal immigration laws by harboring illegal immigrants and providing safe havens for criminals, also known as "sanctuary cities."

    In a letter sent last week, Congressman Jones and his colleagues are asking House appropriators to include language in their FY2019 government funding bill to prevent Department of Homeland Security funds from being allocated to sanctuary cities. The final letter to the House Committee on Appropriations is attached.

    "In this country, no city, state, or person is above the law," said Congressman Jones. "And if you break the law, you forfeit your right to the benefits of this country. Unfortunately, sanctuary cities continue to defy U.S. immigration laws, endangering our citizens and burdening taxpayers. It's time to take a firm stance, and end all funding and benefits to these law-breaking towns and cities."

    Congressman Jones has also cosponsored a number of bills to crack down on sanctuary jurisdictions.
