It should not be a surprise to BCN readers that I have an almost insatiable curiosity about certain esoteric subjects which require me to research them. I usually do this by writing myself a term paper with links to my research. Occasionally it will turn into an article. Stan suggested I attack the subject of The Philadelphia Experiment movie in a previous article comment section, and my natural narcissistic tendencies needed no further prodding.
The story goes that in October of 1943, at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, an experiment was conducted aboard a US Navy Cannon-class destroyer escort called the USS Eldridge, number DE-173. The experiment involved the creation of a force field which rendered the ship invisible both to the eye and to radar. The experiment was witnessed by hundreds, possibly thousands, of sailors both ashore and on other ships nearby. Unfortunately, there were severe side effects to the crew on board ship. Some were found materialized inside the metal of the ship, others were never seen again, and still others were driven insane or plagued for years by mysterious cases of phasing in and out of existence. In typical Navy fashion, everything has been denied.
None of the above ever actually happened. What follows, did actually happen.
( Skeptoid: Critical Analysis of Pop Phenomena)
A Sci-fi movie was made in 1984 depicting the event.
There is a state of mind that exist in a certain segment of the population that enables them to use the absence of facts as proof that something did occur. Numerous other movies have been made about this phenomenon (Conspiracy Theory - 1997).
In order for a conspiracy to be valid there several cornerstone pillars required for the foundation.
If you clicked on the link above the article debunks the whole idea that the USS Eldridge was even anywhere near Philadelphia in that time frame as well as other "FACTS".
And therein lies the problem. The trouble with discussing government conspiracies is that the believers generally refuse to accept the factual evidence, because it becomes part of the conspiracy. It's a bit like having a debate about Creationism: believers simply say "God did it" and it's a matter of faith, not of evidence or fact. If the government is trying to cover something up, every falsified claim becomes evidence for the conspiracy. In summary, there is no amount of evidence that can be compiled that will be accepted by a conspiracy theorist. In the conspiracy theorist's mind, evidence against is actually evidence for.
Having said all that, It was a great movie that at one time held the record for the quickest from movie screen to DVD due to its lack of box office appeal.
Now, if you really want a good conspiracy with legs to keep the drama going, I have a theory about RUSSIAN COLLUSION during the 2016 election. It is bound to be a block buster because it is getting so much free advertising from the Media. I have proof that I found on FACEBOOK.
For the record the Navy did experiment with Degaussing during World War II. The idea was somewhat successful in making the ships "INVISIBLE' to the German Magnetic Naval Mines. Like any good military rumor, the Invisible took flight on the wings of hope. My whole time in Vietnam was full of rumors that our unit was scheduled to return to Hawaii after the next operation. It took a full 12 months for the rumor to come true for me. My freedom bird landed in Hawaii for refueling on the way back to the World. I wrote a letter to several of my comrades still in country and confirmed that there was a place called Hawaii.
"The term was first used by then-Commander Charles F. Goodeve, RCNVR, during World War II while trying to counter the German magnetic naval mines that were playing havoc with the British fleet. The mines detected the increase in the magnetic field when the steel in a ship concentrated the Earth's magnetic field over it."

Great post Bobby Tony. It deserves not only reading but re-reading.
I love the Socialist's propagandistic image of Putin holding Trump as a puppet, especially after the Hussein Administration backed down from Russia in every theater, and even here at home as the Russians continually have hacked our infrastructure for over a decade. I reckon the rank and file ignorant Liberal has no clue of any of this, or that we are engaged in a proxy War with the Russians in Syria right now. Consuming the Fake News exclusively definitely leads to one's stupification, if Liberals and Socialist are any indication. Oh, I just noticed that Gene posted the image; that explains it well. |
After I wrote this article I ran across another article that purports to be an interview with a Navy Veteran who was assigned to another ship but involved in the Navy experiments.
AS ALWAYS BUYER BEWARE –All of this could be fake news educate-yourself.org |
I just put up a new poll, which I will put at the bottom of this post; please vote, everyone please vote.
