MUST WATCH: Border Patrol Agent Sets The Record Straight On CNN, Embarrasses Host | Eastern North Carolina Now

Publisher's note: This informational nugget was sent to me by Ben Shapiro, who represents the Daily Wire, and since this is one of the most topical news events, it should be published on BCN.

This post was written by Amanda Prestigiacomo.

On Wednesday, CNN host Brooke Baldwin had on border patrol agent and National Border Patrol Council spokesman Chris Cabrera, with Baldwin seemingly looking to smear and shame the men and women who police our border. Cabrera, though, took the opportunity to hit Baldwin with the reality of the situation at the Southern border, exposing the false and shallow liberal framing of the issue from the mainstream media, including CNN.

Baldwin started the segment by playing alleged audio of border patrol agents joking about the children in their custody. Cabrera suggested the agents, who see incredibly tragic situations on a daily basis, might have been making light of the rough situation, but noted that he had not heard the audio before the interview.

"I don't think everybody understands what's happening down here. You know, a lot of these kids that are coming here, and put through terrible, terrible situations by their parents; they are brought over in extremely dangerous conditions, in extremely dangerous terrain, and all this can be avoided if they just go through the port of entry. There would be no crime committed by them and they wouldn't get separated. Why they don't do this is beyond me," explained Cabrera, adding, "As we all know, when you get arrested, you don't get to stay with your family."

The border patrol agent also noted that the chaotic Southern border situation has been going on since at least four years ago, when Barack Obama was president. "We've had this situation going on for four years now," he said, adding, "I don't think you can necessarily blame it on one administration or another. It started under one and is continuing under another. It hasn't been fixed and it needs to be fixed."

If the media were witnessing what he and his fellow agents have been witnessing, Cabrera said, they wouldn't be advocating for policy which would act as an incentive for more parents and guardians to send their children to the border alone. He stated, "Right now we have this beacon of, 'We'll leave the light on for you, you come across illegally and we'll let you into the country.' And if you guys have seen some of the stuff we've seen down here, you'd understand how important it is to have a tough stance to divert people from coming here."

Cabrera explained that he's witnessed pre-teens traveling to the border alone with their parents' expectation that they would be raped in the process, and adolescents dying in front of him from heat stroke on the their journey.

"When you see a 12-year-old girl with a Plan B pill, or their parents put her on birth control because they know getting violated is part of the journey, that's just a terrible way to live. When you see a 4-year-old girl traveling completely alone with just her parents' phone number written across her shirt. I mean, come on now, something needs to be done," he said. "We had a 9-year-old boy last year have heat stroke in front of us and die with no family around, and that's because we're allowing people to take advantage of this system."

"If we want this law changed," he said, "we need Congress to take action."

Rather than address all he said in his devastating firsthand account of the grim realities of policies encouraging parents to send children to cross into the country illegally, Baldwin returned to her original question. "America is outraged," she said. "Can you assure everyone watching that you and your border patrol colleagues are treating these children humanely?"

"I can tell you with absolute certainty they're being treated humanely," he replied. "Most of our agents are parents. I've seen guys, and I've done it myself, you give your last bottle of water to a kid, you'll take a toy out of your car to give to one of these kids because you know the situation they're in. Agents are very sympathetic. We're human, we're fathers, we have families. We do a lot for the communities here, whether or not a camera is involved. Our agents are very involved. And nobody saves more lives along the southwestern border than the U.S. Border patrol."

"Having kids in detentions centers, obviously, it's not ideal," he said, "but it's far better than the alternative: a lot of these kids not making it."

Baldwin then claimed that it was President Trump who was separating families at the border, unlike the Obama Administration. As noted by Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief Ben Shapiro, that is false:

In 1997, the federal government made an agreement in a case called Flores not to keep unaccompanied illegal immigrant children in custody beyond twenty days. The settlement said nothing about accompanied illegal immigrant children - children who crossed the border with their parents. The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals then ruled that accompanied children also could not be held in custody under the terms of the settlement. This meant that the government either had to release whole families, or that the government had to separate parents from children.
