Charles Braxton "C.B." Windley, of the Beckwith Community, age 91, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2018 at the home place where he was born.

Born June 1, 1927 in the Beckwith Community, he was the son of the late Charles Sylvester and Ella Keech Windley.

C.B. was a graduate of Bath High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corp. He returned home, and on September 4, 1948, he married Jean Gower. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.

Upon returning home from service, he helped his Dad on the farm. In later years, he and his son Chuck established Windley Carpentry. He was a self-taught carpenter, having no formal training, he followed his passion and became a master craftsman. He had an exceptional work ethic, which he taught his children and grandchildren, that "any job worth doing was worth doing right". In the 1980's, he and Jean started one of the first pecan cracking businesses in the area. Together they worked side by side and ran the business from sun-up to sun-down, cracking thousands of pecans each year. They ran the business until their mid 80's, making hundreds of new friends.

Together C. B. and Jean were blessed with three children, Charles "Chuck" Braxton Windley Jr., Pam Windley Daw (fiancé Harry Meredith, Jr.) and Sherry Windley Stotesbury (Glenn). He is also survived by a very special son Charles Daw.

He was affectionately known as Pa, to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Charles Clifton Daw, Jr., and wife Crystal and their children, Kaitlyn and Heath, Matthew Windley Daw and fiancé Jessica Branazyk and their children, Ashlyn, Jackson and Peyton Ella; Emily Stotesbury Hardison and husband Neil, Ruth Ann Stotesbury Rogers and husband Trey and their children, Sadie and Jackson, and Debbie Stotesbury Pearson and husband Stephen.

He is also survived by a sister Barbara Windley, brother-in-law Case VanWyk and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by father and mother C. S. and Ella Windley; son Charles B. "Chuck" Windley, Jr., sisters and their husbands, Lucille and James Windley; Ethial and Otis Stell, Pinear Mae and Reverend Ralph Epps, Ellene VanWyk, brother-in-law and wife, Joseph and Frances Gower.

The family extends special thanks to all those whose daily faithfulness, personal attention and expert loving care allowed him to continue to live at home and make his life as comfortable as possible: Kim Harvey, Aries Moore, Joeanne Jones, Veronica Ross, Iris Wilkinson, the staff of Community Home Care & Hospice, and the VA staff in Greenville.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 13 at 2:00 p.m. at Hunters Bridge Church of Christ with Arthur "Bud" Ball officiating. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Charles Daw, Charlie Daw, Matthew Daw, Neil Hardison, Stephen Pearson and Trey Rogers will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and at other times at the home.

C.B. was a lifelong member of Hunters Bridge Church of Christ where he attended as long as his health allowed. Flowers are welcome and memorial contributions can be made to Hunters Bridge Church of Christ, 826 Long Ridge Road, Pinetown, NC 27865.

"He fought the good fight, kept the faith and finished the race".
