    Raleigh, NC     As chair of the Health and Human Services committee, Sen. Pate has been instrumental combating the opioid epidemic and working with his colleagues to address this issue. Sen. Pate leaves with the respect and trust of his colleagues from across the aisle. He most recently served as Deputy President Pro Tempore.

    "Sen. Louis Pate has spent more than 16 years serving the people of Greene, Lenoir, Pitt, and Wayne counties," said Vice-Chairman Michele Nix. "His presence within the General Assembly will certainly be missed, and we wish him the best as he focuses on his health."

    "Louis Pate is a good friend of mine and I was honored to have worked alongside him while serving in the North Carolina House," stated Chairman Robin Hayes. "During my years in Congress, Louis contacted me frequently on issues that were important to constituents in his Senate district. He worked tirelessly for the betterment of all citizens that he represented. I hate to see him leave public service but hope he enjoys his well-earned retirement."
