    Mr. Donald Ray Woolard, age 82, a resident of 2186 Terrapin Track Road, Washington, NC, died Sunday January 27, 2019 at his home after a long battle with cancer.

    Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM at Alligood Church of God Wednesday January 30, 2019 and will be officiated by Pastor Philip Jethro and Pastor Gary Bateman. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Major Alligood, Wayland Alligood, Rusty Elks, Johnny O'Neal, Tony Winstead, Tommy Douglas, BB Cox, and Kenny Ray Alligood will serve as pallbearers. Alger Gray, Colon Alligood, Richard Allen Woolard, Alton "Red" Toler, and Edmond Ipock will serve as honorary pallbearers.

    Mr. Woolard was born in Beaufort County on October 25, 1936 to the late Linwood Randolph Woolard and Mammie Alligood Woolard. He attended Bath High School. Mr. Woolard was an active member in the United States Army serving in Germany from 1960 to 1962. On September 27, 1964 he married Ann Respess who preceded him in death on December 1, 2013. For 26 years he worked and retired from Sears & Roebuck Company as a service technician. After retirement his favorite pastime was gardening, growing flower plants and just hanging around outside in his workshop. On any given day there would be many friends that would stop by and visit him. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, DAV, AARP, and the Friends and Neighbors Men's Benefit Club. His greatest treasures called him Granddaddy.

    Survivors include one daughter, Lisa Woolard Margeson and husband Mike of Maryville, TN, and one son, Troy Allen Woolard, Sr. and wife Julie of Washington, eight grandchildren, Macy Arnold, Cecil Alligood, Ashley Margeson, Rhys Margeson, Allen Woolard, Taylor Woolard, Macey Prochilo, Heather Dawn Woolard, one brother, Linwood Earl Woolard (Joyce), five sisters, Alta Jones (Larry), Francine Webster, Wanda Galaway (Jim), Dora Eaton, Darlene Elks (Clyde), eighteen nieces and nephews, and his faithful furry friend "Skip" who will miss him very much.

    In addition to his wife of 50 years Ann Respess Woolard, Mr. Woolard is preceded in death by his son, Michael Todd Woolard, a brother, Larry Woolard, and two sisters, Argie O'Neal, and Janice McKeel.

    The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour at Alligood Church of God and other times at his home.
