    Mrs. Virlena Ruth Ladd Fisher passed away January 11, 2019 at her home on 58 Fisher Lane on River Road in Washington.

    She was born December 6, 1926 in Guilford County to John and Rosa W. Ladd. She was raised in Beaufort County and worked for Maola Ice Cream Plant for over 20 years. She retired from Cliff's Seafood at the age of 74. She dearly loved her job at Cliff's and was affectionately known as "Granny" by the employees. She enjoyed her many loyal customers that requested her to help them.

    Mrs. Ruth is survived by three children, Barbara Alligood, Timothy Allen Fisher and Brenda F. Till and her husband, Tommy Franz. Six grandchildren, D.R. Alligood, Chris Alligood, Kristy Surles, Karen Clark and Allen Fisher. Great grandchildren, Kevin Griffin, Jessica Alligood, Cody Alligood, Rhett Alligood, Rhys Alligood, Rhynn Alligood, Madison Ruth Clark, Brayden Clark, Ashton Fisher, Allison Fisher, Shane Fisher and Jackson Fisher Surles.

    One great great granddaughter, Makayla Kirk and several special nieces and nephews. Mrs. Ruth enjoyed working, fishing, quilting and traveling with her family. Mrs. Ruth's memorial service will be held 3:00 pm, Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Hillside Funeral Service with Tony Krantz officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service and also on Saturday from 12:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Mrs. Ruth's residence. In lieu of flowers the family ask for memorials to be addressed to Beaver Dam Church of Christ, 5125 US Hwy 264 E, Washington, NC 27889.
