Republicans refuse to negotiate with Governor Cooper

    RALEIGH: It's been 100 days since Governor Roy Cooper and Democrats offered Republicans a balanced budget compromise. And for 100 days, Republicans have refused to share a counteroffer, choosing instead to lie to their colleagues and attempt to bribe them to override the Governor's budget veto.

    While Republicans have played games, practiced deceit and been caught up in corruption for 100 days, North Carolina teachers have gone without a state pay raise, even as other state employees received theirs. The Governor's compromise budget closes the healthcare coverage gap and gives teachers an 8.5 percent pay raise while also funding local projects that the GOP included in their original budget. But Republican legislators still refuse to budge, demanding instead a budget that is 100 percent theirs.

    "One hundred days have passed since I shared a commonsense compromise offer to Republican legislators, and with every day that passes without a counteroffer, our teachers, our public schools and our families suffer the consequences," said Governor Cooper. "It's past time for everyone to put pride, tricks and stubbornness aside and negotiate a solution."

    Governor Cooper's compromise offer can be found HERE. It would close the health care coverage gap, raise teacher pay, cut taxes for people and guarantee school construction while balancing the budget and saving money in the Rainy Day Fund.
