    Mr. Lloyd Woodrow 'Buddy" Sawyer, age 73, a resident of 6863 Free Union Church Road, Pinetown, NC died peacefully Saturday December 7, 2019 at his home.

    A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday December 10, 2019 at Free Union Free Will Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Harold Swinson and Rev. Tony Parrish. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Church of Christ Cemetery in the Ponzer community of Belhaven. Trent Midgette, Glen Quidley, Lloyd Williams, Robert Clayton, Scott Williamson and Howard Rose will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Midgette and Arthur Clayton.

    The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday December 9, 2019 at Free Union Free Will Baptist Church and other times at the home.

    Mr. Sawyer was born in Hyde County on January 6, 1946 son of the late Walter Acton Sawyer and the late Mabel Lowe Sawyer Marshall. He attended John A. Wilkinson High School. On May 30, 1965 he married the former Gloria Paige Sparrow who preceded him in death on March 27, 2012. He was owner/Operator of Lloyd Sawyer Welding Service and Grunt Strain Trucking. Mr. Sawyer was a member of Free Union Free Will Baptist Church. He loved working, fishing and could fix anything mechanical.

    Survivors include two children: Lloyd W. Sawyer, Jr and his wife Terry of Washington and Sonya S. Midgette and her husband Steve of Belhaven; two sisters: Dorothy Gibson and her husband John of Charlottesville, VA and Ann Braddy and her husband Wayne of Belhaven; four grandchildren: Trent Midgette and his wife Julie, Megan Sawyer, Kristina Midgette and Ashlan Sawyer; one great grandchild: Harper Jane Midgette and his faithful sidekick Tickle. He was predeceased along with his parents and wife by a sister: Doris Rose and three brothers: Wilbur G. Sawyer, Sr., Walter "Jake" Sawyer and Robert Sawyer.

    Flowers are welcome and appreciated and the family kindly asks for any memorial contributions be made to Free Union Free Will Baptist Church, 4961 Free Union Church Road, Pinetown, NC 27865.
