Murphy Rejects Articles of Impeachment | Eastern North Carolina Now

Press Release:

Washington, D.C.     Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. (NC-03) released the following statement after Democratic leadership announced the two Articles of Impeachment against President Donald Trump, which allege Abuse of Power and Obstruction of Congress.

"It's disappointing that Democratic leadership continues to drag our country through this divisive exercise in partisanship. The evidence has shown the President has done nothing wrong," said Murphy.

"As Commander in Chief and leader of American foreign policy, President Trump has a vested interest in rooting out corruption in countries to which we provide aid. This is not an abuse of power. It is his job.

"The only thing that has been obstructed throughout these investigations is the President's right to due process. I don't blame the President for refusing to participate in a guilty-until-proven-innocent investigation. That isn't how American justice is supposed to work.

"I certainly cannot support either of these articles and will be happy when the president is acquitted in the Senate and Congress can get back to tending to the business of the people."
