Tillis Fights for the Little Guy, Cunningham Is a Spoiled Liberal Elitist | Eastern NC Now

    RALEIGH     Yesterday, the Tillis campaign released their opening ad of the general election that showcased Senator Tillis' blue-collar upbringing and how it makes him uniquely qualified to fight for hardworking North Carolinians as they recover from COVID-19.

    Senator Tillis' self-made story presented in the ad stands in stark contrast to the privileged upbringing of career-politician and lifelong political opportunist Cal Cunningham. Here are some key differences between the two candidates:

• While Cunningham grew up in a white collar family with a silver spoon in his mouth, Tillis grew up in trailer parks and rental houses.
• While Cunningham went to UNC where he raised tuition on his classmates and defended the right for professors to have sex with their students, Tillis couldn't afford college and had to put himself through night school while raising a family at the same time.
• While Cunningham had a trial lawyer job at his daddy's law firm handed to him right after graduation, Tillis worked his way up from a warehouse clerk earning minimum wage to a partner at IBM.
• While both of Cunningham's Senate campaigns have been funded by the Democratic establishment in D.C, Tillis began his time in public service as an insurgent.

    "The difference between Cunningham and Senator Tillis could not be more clear. Cunningham has had his entire life handed to him and that's exactly what is happening in his campaign for Senate," said NCGOP spokesman Tim Wigginton. "D.C. Democrats want to buy Cunningham's seat in the Senate, and North Carolinians see right through it. Cunningham is a spoiled rich kid who doesn't know the first thing about what every day North Carolinians are going through. He'll side with Chuck Schumer and the rest of the extreme liberals funding his campaign every time."
