Why are so Many Conservatives so Afraid of the Great Reset? | Eastern North Carolina Now

John Woodard

We have been discussing the Great Reset for quite a long time without knowing the true story behind it. We know generally that it is used usher in Socialism/Marxism and destroy the government system and economic policy of the United States. We will attempt to answer the questions in this article.

Several years ago, a German economist and engineer drafted a vision for what the world might look like after the coronavirus pandemic is over. He described how countries could come together to facilitate “the Great Reset,” a reordering of social and economic priorities.

Klaus Schwab, founder of the World Economic Forum, believes there will be no “getting back to normal” after Covid-19 subsides, saying the pandemic represents a global inflection point.

“Some analysts call it a major bifurcation, others refer to a deep crisis of biblical proportions but the essence remains the same: the world as we knew it in the early months of 2020, no longer exists, having been dissolved in the context of the pandemic.”

Schwab envisions the Great Reset as an opportunity to make the world better and more resilient, to capitalize on accelerating change. But many people, including conservative broadcaster Glenn Beck, see something much more sinister in his vision.

Internet ads site the Great Reset and encourage people to buy products in preparation for a “permanent lockdown.” On Twitter and Parler, people warned of social change similar to that of a boiling frog, the type that occurs slowly, without realization. And conspiracy theories have emerged, fueled by the things people see as troubling coincidences, such as president-elect Joe Biden using the campaign slogan “Build That Better”. It is no coincidence that this just happens to be the slogan coined by Sherman Schwab, a fact that we have reported on previously.

So how did what’s essentially a policy paper by a German economist become so worrisome in some quarters of America? There are three basic reasons for the concern.

The Global Agenda:

The World Economic Form began in 1971 as a European nonprofit that invited business leaders to an annual conference in January. At the time it was called the European Management Forum, and early meetings focused on how European leaders could emulate business practices in the United States.

The group later expanded to include business and political leaders around the world and changed its name to the one that is in use now in 1987. The annual meeting is always held in Davos Switzerland.

While people

from around the world are involved, the WEF remains heavily influenced by Schwab and his beliefs, articulated in a manifesto published in 1973. That paper said companies should value stakeholders not just shareholders, and for management to serve clients, employees, investors and society, while making a profit sufficient to ensure the company’s existence. These philosophies were updated earlier this year in the “Davos Manifesto 2020” which called for a “better kind of capitalism.”

A company is more than an economic unit generating wealth. It fulfills human and societal aspirations as part of the broader social system. Performance must be measured not only on the return to shareholders, but also on how it achieves its environmental, social and good governance objectives.

The US has a significant presence at Davos. In 2020, 674 Americans, including Pres. Trump were among the nearly 3000 people from 117 countries who attended. And the forum website promotes the thinking of Americans such as the late economist Milton Friedman and bank of America CEO Brian Moynahan.

But the group’s emphasis on global cooperation and reshaping capitalism worry conservatives who promote America First, and just trust Schwab and his calls for globally shared goals for private enterprise. Proponents of small government and lower taxes recoil and his conclusion that the Great Reset, irrespective of the details, the role of the state will increase, and in so doing will materially affect the way business is conducted. Taxes will necessarily increase particularly for the most privileged.

Schwab also rues the lack of a system of global governance to address global problems, such as a pandemic and pointed to Trump’s decision to withdraw funding from the World Health Organization.

Fear of More Government:

Schwab has said that it is not Covid-19 that will directly cause permanent changes to society, but rather the pandemic will accelerate changes that were already underway. Much talk about the Great Reset has to do with dealing with income and wealth inequality, which has been exposed to a greater degree during the pandemic.

Canadian Crime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke about this in a speech he gave to the United Nations in September.

This is a chance to accelerate our pre-pandemic efforts, to reimagine economic systems that actually address global challenges like extreme poverty, inequality and climate change.

Talk about providing greater government assistance to people in poverty often is divisive along partisan lines, as a recent debate over the suggested $2000 stimulus checks in the US illustrates. But conservatives resist greater government involvement on all fronts, including widespread lockdowns, which are decried as infringement on personal freedom.

Many people also worry that the post virus world will include new restrictions on mobility, such as requirements to present a vaccine or immunity card before boarding a plane or attending the concert. The federal Economic Employment Opportunity Commission recently said employers can require vaccination and bar workers from their buildings if they don’t have it. And a common pass has been proposed that would serve as a forum of health ID around the world. While mandated vaccines and ID cards are not part of the WEF vision, the term Great Reset has expanded on the Internet to include any types of ominous lasting change.

One person on Twitter describe the components of the Great Reset as control movement, suppression of dissent, transfer of wealth and creation of dependency on government, and the introduction of digital IDs, electronic money and universal basic income. Others say that reports of mutations in the virus are covered stories to enforce new lockdowns.

It is not just people in the US who are worried. British podcast or James Delingpole called the Great Reset one of several codewords for the complete transformation of the global economy in order to create a New World Order.

Mr. Delingpole admitted that his beliefs sounded like a conspiracy theory, but as someone wise once said, it’s not a conspiracy theory when they tell you exactly what they are doing.

The most virulent conspiracy theorists, however, take it farther: claiming that the entire pandemic was faked in order to engineer a Great Reset. One very interesting question, which no one seems to have an answer for, is How did we go from flattening the curve to stay home until you accept communism?

Mutual Urgency:

Schwab did not invent the term Great Reset. It is unknown who did, but it has been around for years. Some people have used this term to describe climatic events which have economic consequences.

There are people who have very little regard for the WEF take on the term. More likely this is another example of wealthy, powerful elites solving their consciences with though efforts to help the masses, and in the process, make themselves even wealthier and more powerful.

Glenn Beck is warning his listeners and viewers on A Blaze TV of coming fundamental changes to society and capitalism if Schwab’s vision is implemented. Writing for The Hill, Justin Haskins of the Heartland Institute has said, “For those of us who support free markets, the Great Reset is nothing short of terrifying.”

America is the world’s most powerful, prosperous nation precisely because of the very market principles the Great Reset supporters loathe, not in spite of them.

If Schwab and supporters of his vision succeed, Haskins added,” radical-and catastrophic change is exactly what we’re going to get.

As for the specifics of what the WEF and its Great Reset actually entails, more details will be forthcoming.

Reporters note:

This country faces a great many challenges from different quarters, many of which are looked at as independent and unconnected. It is our opinion that the left has never put all of its eggs in any single basket. This gives them the freedom to put so many obstacles in our way that we will be unable to stem the tide of the advancement of their goals. Further, it is perfectly obvious that Pres. Biden has been the instrument of tearing down the United States government and economy in order to make way for the implementation of all the goals of the left.

The bottom line is that we who love our freedoms and our way of life have two enlist the help of other like-minded people in order to fight for the salvation of the United States.
