A Rash of Breaking and Entering Crimes in Chocowinity Area | Eastern NC Now

Investigator Wesley Waters applied for and obtained warrants charging Cornelius Terry Lee Sparks, with two counts of Breaking and Entering and two counts of Felony Larceny.

For Immediate Release:

    On August 15, 2012, the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office received a report of a Breaking and Entering and Larceny that occurred at a farm on Harding Lane in Chocowinity, NC. The victim reported three electric golf carts and other power tools were stolen. The Sheriff's Office began an investigation, collected evidence, and conducted interviews. During the investigation, the golf carts and power tools were recovered and returned to the victim.

    On August 16, 2012, Investigator Wesley Waters applied for and obtained warrants charging Cornelius Terry Lee Sparks, age 26, of Hodges Road in Chocowinity, with two (2) counts of Breaking and Entering and two(2) counts of Felony Larceny. On August 20, 2012, Sparks was arrested by the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office and held in the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $20,000.00 secured bond set by Magistrate David Curtis.

Beaufort County Sheriff's Office received a report of Larceny that occurred at a residence on East Barr Road in Chocowinity. The victim reported several solar lights were stolen from their driveway. Some of the lights were recovered with the golf carts stolen on August 15th.

    On September 11, 2012, Investigator Wesley Waters applied for and obtained warrants charging Daniel Timothy Bright, age 22, of Gray Road in Chocowinity, and Timothy Jefferson, age 19, of Old Blounts Creek Road in Chocowinity with two(2) counts each of Breaking and Entering, two(2) counts each of Felony Larceny and one(1) count each of Misdemeanor Larceny. An additional warrant for one(1) count of Misdemeanor Larceny was obtained against Cornelius Terry Lee Sparks for the stolen solar lights.

    On September 11, 2012, Sparks was served with the Misdemeanor Larceny warrant in the Beaufort County Detention Center and held on an additional $1,000.00 secured bond set by Magistrate Donald Sadler for this charge and unrelated offenses. On September 15, 2012, Daniel Bright turned himself in at the Beaufort County Magistrate's Office and was released on a written promise bond set by Magistrate Jasper Mills. On September 18, 2012, Timothy Jefferson turned himself in at the Beaufort County Magistrate's Office and was held on an $11,000.00 secured bond set by Magistrate David Curtis.

On Monday, April 13, 2026, the Beaufort County Grand Jury returned a True Bill of Indictment against 24-year-old Brady O’Neil Daniels of Wallace, NC, charging him with the murder of Billy Joe Bell in 2023.
On Tuesday, April 7, 2026, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call in a wooded area near Pamlico Plantation in Washington NC.
In the past month, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Patrol and K9 Division have arrested 10 people in the county on felony drug charges.
On December 12, 2025, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested 27-year-old Nikkopenia Terra Echevarria of Washington, NC on multiple felony drug charges.
Beaufort County District Attorney Thomas D. Anglim disclosed that Ryan Austin Stalls was convicted of two counts attempted murder and one count of attempted first degree ex offense and first-degree kidnapping following a guilty plea in Beaufort County on December 9, 2025.
On December 22, 2025, Deputies from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in the Aurora/Richlands area for a report of a foul odor coming from inside a rental property where a tenant had previously moved out.

On December 5, 2025, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit arrested 39-year-old, Arnold Gerard Whitney of Belhaven, NC on multiple drug and weapon charges.
On Tuesday December 9th, 2025, 33-year-old Ryan Austin Stalls pled guilty in Beaufort County Superior Court to the following charges:
Today I officially filed for re-election, seeking to continue my service to the citizens of Beaufort County.
On January 27, 2025 Washington Police Department officers and Washington Fire/Rescue personnel responded to the area of Bonner Street and E. Martin Luther King Jr. Street in reference to a report of a motor vehicle crash.
During the past month, members from the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office Drug Unit, Patrol Division and K9 Unit have charged seven people in the county on felony drug charges.
The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office needs your help locating a wanted person. On October 27, 2025, 40-year-old Givon Montrell Hodges of Washington, NC left Superior Court in Beaufort County and failed to return.

On April 25, 2024, Deputies with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jaleza Aneice Alexander on multiple drug charges.
