Abrams’ Campaign Claims Criticism For Not Wearing Mask ‘A False Political Attack,’ ‘Pathetic,’ ‘Silly’ | Eastern North Carolina Now

Georgia Democrat gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams' campaign claimed on Sunday that those who are attacking her for not wearing a mask in a room full of masked children were making a "false political attack."

A picture of the incident went viral on social media over the weekend after Abrams was photographed not wearing a mask while visiting Glennwood Elementary School to kick off its annual African American read-in.

"It is shameful that our opponents are using a Black History Month reading event for Georgia children as the impetus for a false political attack, and it is pitiful and predictable that our opponents continue to look for opportunities to distract from their failed records when it comes to protecting public health during the pandemic," Abrams' campaign said in a statement, later adding: "This pathetic, transparent and silly attack is beneath anyone who claims he wants to lead Georgia."

Georgia Republican Governor Brian Kemp responded to the photo by writing: "Stacey Abrams wants state government mask mandates for Georgians and their children. But it looks like they wouldn't apply when she's attending a photo op."

David Perdue, who is running in Georgia's Republican primary for governor, responded in a statement calling out Abrams' hypocrisy.

"Where is Stacey's mask? We all know Stacey Abrams' hypocrisy knows no bounds," Perdue said in a statement. "Liberals' thirst for power during this pandemic has caused enormous damage to our kids, while the elite like Stacey continue living their lives."

The New York Post highlighted other examples of Democrat politicians recently acting hypocritically when it comes to coronavirus restrictions and guidelines:

Just last week, Newsom came under fire after posing maskless for a photo during the 49ers-Rams NFL game - defying a local mandate and the LA stadium's own requirements. The Democratic insisted he was "very judicious" about wearing the mask and only took it off for a photo.

And when both San Francisco Mayor Breed and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti smiled for a maskless pic with Magic Johnson at the same game, Garcetti claimed he held his breath for the pic, which prevented him from contracting COVID-19.
