Fifth-Grade Girls Attend Science Camp, Sleep In Same Cabin As ‘Non-Binary’ Counselors | Eastern North Carolina Now

An Orange County, California, school district organized a science camp for fifth-grade girls, where they stayed in cabins for three nights with what some of the girls' parents said were men who "identified" as non-binary. "Camp Pali" was organized by the Los Alamitos Unified School District; the girls came from Weaver Elementary School.

"The parents say their fifth-grade girls told them some of the biologically male counselors at Camp Pali in San Bernardino who use they/them pronouns spent three nights sleeping in cabins with the young girls," KTLA reported.

Emmi Teige, assistant director of Camp Pali, acknowledged, "Per California law, we place staff in cabins they identify with."

Some parents expressed their anger to KTLA; Suzy Johnson stated, "No parent should feel the way I feel after knowing what could have happened to my daughter. It's awful that children had to even experience this in fifth-grade camp. If I was aware of it and I had initialed something saying this was going to be done at this outdoor science camp, I would have kept my children home."

Rachel Sandoval echoed, "I contacted the school and asked them if they were about to confirm that there was not a man actually sleeping in the same cabin as the girls. They were not able to confirm that."

The Los Alamitos Unified School District issued a statement about the incident saying:

While counselors may have used the pronouns, they/them, the use of these pronouns is not restricted to biological males. Biological females also use those term. Pali Institute is an equal opportunity employer and always has been, with diversity and inclusion among its core values. Its commitment to diversity and inclusion applies equally to its students. Pali Institute's priority is and always has been to ensure the health, welfare, and safety of its students, with strict rules and guidelines that govern staff interaction with students.

Last October, after a concerned parent spoke out against vaccine mandates for students as she addressed the board of the Los Alamitos Unified School District, Board President Marlys Davidson muttered, "F*** you."

Lauren Roupoli started by saying, "My name is Lauren Roupoli and I am here as a concerned parent to urge you to be the first school to say no mandates for our children." "Let them be kids and enjoy one another," Roupoli told the school board. "Let them breathe again and smile again. Emailing and calling, like you say, isn't gonna help."

"If you guys are aware, back in 2019, there was a bill passed by Pan, AB276, making it impossible for children to go to in-person school unless they were fully vaccinated as well as getting a medical exemption," she recalled. Roupoli stated, "If you remember parents pounding on walls at the state capitol in 2019 in hopes that their voices would be heard, their voices were shamed ..."

After Davidson informed her that her time was up and Roupoli walked away, Davidson muttered, "F*** you."

    NBC News reported later:

KTLA reported Davidson had apologized and said in a statement that "when members of the public address the Board of Education, they must be heard with respect." "I reaffirm my commitment to serve our community with dignity and integrity, and I hope they will accept my sincere apology," Davidson said in the statement.
