Statement from Lieutenant Governor Robinson on CRT Activists Protesting at the Office of the Lieutenant Governor | Eastern NC Now

    Monday, liberal activists supporting CRT and sexually explicit materials protested at the Lieutenant Governor's Office to talk about books in schools. They claimed the Lieutenant Governor was trying to "ban books."

    Lieutenant Governor Robinson states, "We have never advocated for the banning of books. If you want to purchase and view a book at your local bookstore or public library, you should have the right to do so.

    However, none of the books dropped off Monday were the ones that we have referenced -books like Gender Queer. Pornographic materials in our public schools and students being taught they should hate each other because of the color of their skin have no place in education.

    The 1619 Project, which has been roundly dismissed by scholars across the political spectrum, was one of the books dropped off at my office. It teaches that minorities, specifically black Americans, are victims from birth because of the color of our skin and that white students are privileged, no matter what their families' history is.

    These types of teachings are divisive, inappropriate, and simply wrong. Education should be about teaching, not indoctrinating students with a political agenda."
