    March 9, 2022     At the March 7, 2022 regular meeting of the Beaufort County Board of Commissioners, Commissioner Chris Chadwick, on behalf of the Carteret County Board of Commissioners, presented a $12,000 check for the Sidney Dive Team to purchase an additional diving helmet so that the Team could expand its abilities to conduct underwater search/rescue/recovery operations.

    The Sidney Dive Team is a highly specialized volunteer dive team that provides underwater search/rescue/recovery operations. The Team recently assisted in recovery operations from the tragic airplane crash off the coast of Drum Inlet in Carteret County that claimed the lives of four sophomores from East Carteret High School and four adults on February 13, 2022. The group was returning from a duck hunting trip to Hyde County when their plane went down.

    Commissioner Chadwick expressed his appreciation to the Sidney Dive Team members for their efforts. He stated that the Team was, "efficient, well equipped and very compassionate folks" and "we are indebted to them gratefully." He further stated that they "were a blessing to our county and community and we are very appreciative to them."
