Rev. George Allen Jones | Eastern NC Now

    Rev. George Allen Jones, age 81, a retired United Methodist Minister, died Friday, March 11, 2022, at Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern.

    The family will receive friends from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Monday, March 14, 2022, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington.

    Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at the Chocowinity United Methodist Church in Chocowinity, conducted by Pastor David A. Banks. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery in Washington.

    His grandsons will serve as pallbearers: Douglas Todd Jones, Jr., Benjamin Ryan McMicken, Jonathan Michael McMicken, Christopher Layne McMicken, Riley Quinn Lunn, Joshua Brett Jones, and Ethan Henry Jones.

    Rev. Jones was born in Mercer, PA on September 25, 1940. He was the son of the late Allen Jones and Dorothy Dillinger Jones and raised by his grandparents, Walter and Ann Dillinger. Rev. Jones was a graduate of N.C. Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount and the Southeastern Seminary at Wake Forest. He served churches in New York State and North Carolina over 50 years in the ministry. Dr. Jones was a member of several Lions, Ruritan, Civitan and Rotary Clubs. After his retirement, he served as town commissioner and Mayor Pro-Tem of the town of Aurora. In his spare time, Dr. Jones loved boating and sailing.

    On July 6, 1959, Dr. Jones married the former Bonnie Lee Kifer, who survives.

    Surviving with his wife are his children, Dawn Elizabeth Jones of Aurora, Douglas Todd Jones (Julie) of Middleville, Michigan, Timothy Brett Jones (Anna) of Aurora, Christopher Ladd Jones (Barbara) of Aurora, Peter Matthew Jones (Laura) of Cary, N.C., Jennifer Lee Lunn (Sean) of Woodbridge, VA; nine grandchildren, Jessica Lee Jones, Sara Elizabeth Catron (Jake), Douglas Todd Jones, Jr., Benjamin Ryan McMicken (Jason), Jonathan Michael McMicken, Christopher Layne McMicken, Riley Quinn Lunn, Joshua Brett Jones (Samantha), Ethan Henry Jones; and six great grandchildren, Hayley Jones, Sophia Jones, Emma Jones, Olivia Jones, Izzy Jones and Kora Rose Catron.

    In addition to his parents, Dr. Jones was preceded in death, Joanna Hebert, Jacqueline Winters, and Albert Winters.
