Mrs. Barbara June Moore Bushhousen, age 75, a resident of 773 Maules Point Road, Blounts Creek, NC died Tuesday March 22, 2022, at her home with her family by her side.

A private graveside service will be held a later date at Oakdale Cemetery. Mrs. June was born in Beaufort County on August 19, 1946, daughter of the late Willie Gray "Billy" Moore and the late Marjorie Mae Meekins Hollowell. She was a graduate of Aurora High School and continued her education at Watts Hospital School of Radiology. She married Lawrence Jerome Bushhousen on April 25, 1970 who preceded her in death on December 7, 2020. On April 5, 1972, they welcomed the birth of their beloved daughter, Kimberly.

She, along with her husband, were co-owners and co-operators of the former Bush's Gamebird Farm in Blounts Creek. They were featured on the Slim Short Show and also had one of their pheasants displayed at the Governor's Mansion in Raleigh. Mrs. June loved nature, rescuing animals, and anything outdoors, including gardening. Many times, you would find her walking around the farm through the woods enjoying the sound of birds and frogs chirping as well as the beautiful landscape God blessed us with. During the warm months, she would kayak on the lake and most always had one of her beloved dogs with her. She and her daughter would take daily drives in the evenings to look for wildlife, talk about the day's happenings and give her dogs Hannah and Trixie their daily ride. She enjoyed genealogy and spent many hours researching her ancestors. She also enjoyed collecting antiques and writing poetry. She, along with her daughter, would "treasure hunt" for antiques and other special items in thrift stores. She was a member of Smyrna Free Will Baptist Church. She along with her husband, directed a puppet show team and would travel to other churches sharing the joys of God through puppeteering. Mrs. June had a zest for life and made the most out of everything that God has provided. She would brighten up any room with her presence and infectious smile. She would always find beauty in everything. She was well loved by her family and many friends. Some of those friendships have lasted throughout her life.

My mother was my best friend, the shoulder I turned to when I needed comfort. We had a special bond that nothing could break. God blessed me with the greatest mother I could have ever asked for. Many times I would tell her that God picked her out just for me and he did a great job! I had the honor and privilege of being her full-time caregiver for the last 2 1/2 years. It was no easy task but I would do it all over again. Not a day will go by that I won't think of my mother and reminisce the wonderful life I had with her. Mama, I miss you so much but I know you will always be with me in spirit to guide me and have my back if things get rough. Enjoy Heaven mama and I will see you again.

Survivors include a daughter: Kimberly B. Palasch (Henry) of Blounts Creek; a sister Dianna H. Dobyns (Joe) of Greenville; two brothers: Benjamin Hollowell (Dixie) of Chocowinity, and Ricky Hollowell (Jo) of Blounts Creek; her dogs and grand dogs and the many dear friends that she has touched throughout her life. She was blessed to have Jennifer Skvarla, Joyce Holadia, Becky Voyles, Darlyne Rosario and Wanda Richardson as her closest and longtime friends. She was predeceased by her parents and brother: Dana Hollowell.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to Beaufort County Humane Society, P. O. Box 33, Washington, NC 27889 or any humane society of your choosing. You can also remember Mrs. June by planting a tree to honor her love of life and nature.

Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington is honored to serve the Bushhousen family.
