Mrs. Lois Jean Brooks Slade, age 87, a former resident of the Terra Ceia Community of Pantego, NC, and currently a resident of 109 Cedar Circle, Washington, joined her husband and other family members in heaven on Saturday May 14, 2022, at her home in Washington.

    A funeral will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday May 17, 2022, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington officiated by Pastor Harold Swinson and Pastor Daren Walker. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers Will be Stevie Van Staalduinen, Eddie Brooks, Charlie Brooks, Daniel Dell, Josh Abbott, Michael Woolard, and Jeffrey Potter. The family will receive friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday May 16, 2022, at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory and other times at the home of her daughter: Barbara Hardison, 109 Cedar Circle, Washington

    Mrs. Slade was born on November 12, 1934, daughter of the late Charlie Jackson Brooks, Sr., and the late Annie Eliza Tetterton Brooks. She was a 1954 graduate of Pantego High School. On July 4, 1954, she married the love of her life, Robert Monroe Slade, Sr. who preceded her in death on September 30, 1998. Mrs. Slade worked to help her husband provide for their family by working at sewing factories in Belhaven and later by working at Hamilton Beach in Washington. At that point in their lives Mr. Slade convinced her that she could discontinue working and become a one hundred percent homemaker. She was a member of Free Union Free Will Baptist Church, and attended First Free Will Baptist Church in Washington. She loved worshiping at both locations. At Free Union Free Will Baptist Church, along with her husband, started the church's audio tape ministry. They both enjoyed delivering the tapes of the previous Sunday's service during the week as their ministries.

    Surviving are her children: Robert M. "Robbie' Slade (Randi) of Pantego, Peggy S. Rodman (Lewis) of Aurora, Barbara S. Hardison (Wayne) of Washington, Debra S. Cooper (Shelton) of Pantego, and Billy R. Slade (Pam) of Blounts Creek; grandchildren: Stevie Van Staalduinen (Beverly) of Winterville, Stacey Van Staalduinen (Tyler Richman) of Washington, John R. Slade (Karla) of Atlanta, GA, Jennifer S. Webb (Jordan Edmonson) of Williamston, Crystal C. Everett (Rumley) of Bath, D. Slade Collins of Raleigh, David W. Collins of Raleigh, Elizabeth S. Hoagland (Brendan) of Bath, Jessica H. Woolard (Michael) of Walstonburg, Stevie G. Martin (Patrick) of Chesapeake, VA, Victoria N. Hardison of Washington, Nicholas R. Cooper (Coral) of Washington, Brandi H. Potter (Jeffery), Jeremy T. Cooper (Madison) of Pantego, Olivia S. Tyson (Brandon) of Black Jack; sisters: Nelva B. Swinson (Johnny) of Jamesville, Elva B. Respess (Henry) of Chester, VA, and Patsy B. Rose (Charles) of Pantego; fourteen great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Mrs. Slade was predeceased along with her parents and husband by a great grandchild: Lilly Faith Everett; sisters: Mildred Brooks, Mary Cuthrell, and Rachel Hardison; brothers: Frank Brooks, Charlie J. Brooks, Jr., and Howard Brooks.

    The family would like to send a special thank you to AseraCare Hospice, their nurses, Eunyoung Jeon, and Kandice Pitt, and her hospice aid Mrs. Mary Chestnut. You will never be forgotten!
